91mm hook will hold needle + thread
on: August 22, 2010, 09:35:21 PM
Not really a mod but an add-on like the corkscrew screwdriver, so I thought it would fit best here.

I just discovered that the hook that comes on many 91mm models actually has enough spare room behind it to securely store a needle and thread. While other tools will not close properly with anything behind them, the hook will, and is thick enough to secure it properly.

just a small tip:
Put the needle with the tip-end to the hook and not to the rivet, because by closing the hook could damage the tip of the needle.

By older knives the Victorinox placed the pin - not under the corkscrew as today, but right under the hook. I bought one such Timekeeper with the pin under the hook - and the tip of it was damaged by closed hook.

(sorry for my english - I am not able to describe it better...)

Good idea that.
With a bit of careful placing can also put the pin there (if dont already have a pin hole or like mine has got a bit big and occasionally slips out into the corkscrew)

OOps just read above post !

Any other suggestion for the use / mod of the hook - not a thing a use much on my sak

I actuallu use it a lot - for paracord work. If you don't use it at all; i'd think it was possible to cut it off completely and be left with a square pin that you could makea bit adapter for, or turn it into a cutting edge less awl, or shape it to a small phillips head, or........
