Help with military insignia .

I've aquired rather alot of military patches , badges and shoulder slides and wondered if anyone could tell me a bit about them .

They are air force patches but I never can remember how many stripes corallates to what with them. I know wikipedia has a breakdown of how many stripes goes to what.

The stripes are pre-1991 Air Force Master Sergeant patches. After 1991, the insignias changed to have a maximum of 5 chevrons below the star, the rest going above and inverted.

The single stripes and pins are those for enlisted airmen, lowest of the low. Couldn't tell you the date without decoding the military code, though.

Both are air force strips for enlisted ranks,one strip is for an airman,and the six strips down is for the old Master Sergent that was phased out in 1999,the new Master Sergeant strips are five down,and one up,with two up is a Senior Master Sergent,and with Three up is a Chief Master Sergent,that is what mine is.

They changed the design of the stripes partly because the Master, Senior Master, and Chief Master are, or were referred to as the top 3.
