The SUPER Super Tinker
on: August 30, 2010, 03:05:36 PM
Curiosity got the best of me again, and something big came in today. Something really big.

I just got the advertizing display Super Tinker in.  Yes, I was the one who won it off of eBay. I just wished I had seen it the first time. Ah well… :D

(The SUPER Super Tinker on top, Super Tinker on the bottom.)

The detail of the display knife is excellent. There are a few issues with it though, that in no way diminish its usefulness at what it was designed to do. There are no back springs on this advertizing display. Likewise, the bottle opener tip is too large for it to close properly with the can opener. This was done purposefully as there is a screw hole located at the tip of the can opener. Not sure what went there. If anyone has any info, that would be much appreciated.

As a big sprawling model, it works very well. The scissors work wonderfully and are BIG. Due to the lack of spring tension, the scissors spring will push against the handles, opening them 1/3 of the way.  It will look good taking up a drawer in the new storage unit opened and on display.

Here we have the smaller Super Tinker showing its detail.

Here is a similar shot of the larger display knife. Note the thicker bottle opener with its small hole. I wish I knew what went in there.

I'm having a hard time getting a sense of scale. How big is that thing?

That's really amazing... I REALLY wish I had saw it the first time around!

One more thing to add to the wanted list, even if I'm not likely to ever find it. My SAK collecting will be entering new slow phase soon (at least I hope the feeling is true), maybe I'll have time to track down gems like this.

That thing is epic.  So much better than the motorised display pieces you see these days.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

What an odd thing to even make!  Pretty neat though.  It's like a SAK that's built for the Jolly green giant or something.

Could it be to mounting it on a display ?  that will also explain the bigger size and thickness of that tool ..  :tu:
