Getting a Magcharger
on: August 30, 2010, 09:03:12 PM
Okay, so before y'all crucify me, I know the thing isn't the brightest pencil in the shed. The reason I am getting it is twofold:

1. It's tailored specifically to storing in a vehicle, down to size and mount, not to mention it can be charged with the 12V source.

2. It is big, heavy and scary.  :multi:

The reason I post about it here, is that I'm not sure if there are 220V adapters for the thing. I can order one from abroad (in fact, I'm going to) but I don't want it to run completely on gasoline...

So is this, but that still doesn't make it a good flashlight

But yes, there are 220v chargers http://www.google.no/search?hl=no&q=magcharger+220v&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Thanks, I wasn't sure. And, for some reason, forgot which century I was in.

Heheh. Let's say it's big, tough, car-friendly and a reliable flashlight. I especially like the part where American policemen aren't allowed to carry maglites any more because they do too much tissue damage. You know, the same policemen who carry guns and batons...

a reliable flashlight

No they're not :P There was a whole bunch of them where I worked for 7 years. Besides outputting much less light than my $25 Cree LED light, they need to be recharged every 5 min and the lightbulbs go boom if you look at it the wrong way. It's outdated technology in every way :p

Oh. Well, that sucks. I realize Maglite is old, old news, but they're still supposed to work. My 2D is everything it's supposed to be and all the reviews I've read online were extremely positive (its inferiority to LEDs notwithstanding) Could it be your batch was simply ground down with use?

Well of course it has deteriorated as far as battery capacity goes, but that's kind of the point - it gets less and less reliable and it's not easy/cheap to get new battery packs. When I started carrying my CR123 powered Romison RC-N3 at work last year I ended up having to get about 10 of them for various people at work. It was kinda ridiculous when they stood there with their giant maglites making a small yellow ring on the wall and I fished up my flashlight that I could hide by wrapping my hand around it an lighting up the entire room. I'm just saying that if I was you I'd rather have a good light with a bunch of spare batteries and instead carry a bat in the car for hitting people in the head. You need to carry spare bulbs for the maglite anyways, and at least batteries are easier to get if you get an AA light. Seems you want the magcharger for the multitool features in this case and I'm just very hesitant in recommending anything maglite after having been around them for so long and seeing what they can't do
