In praise of the Fenix EO1
on: August 22, 2010, 05:12:06 PM
I have got to hand it to Fenix, the EO1 has lived on my keychain for months and given me light all through last Winter and many other jobs and it has only asked for a new battery yesterday. What a brilliant little light, and thanks Mr.Bee too

Great little lamp - I've been using mine on a daily basis for a year now, and together with a Photon II is fulfilling all of my needs.

It is a truly useful, durable and well-designed light.  It's a remarkable light when you consider the price.

It's a great little light. Not very bright, but cheap, rugged, reliable and it doesn't eat much batteries. I have always one in my EDC bag.  :tu:

I have a couple of these, don't use them much, just emergency lights, but they are great little things.  I carefully sand the dome of the LED, and get a very nice, smooth flood (with more blended tint intsead of the purple hotspot).  You get even less throw, but it is a great short - medium range beam.

We've been giving EO1's away to family and friends as birthday gifts. It's only after a few months that they find one day that they really need it and how useful they are. Great lights.

I have  Fenix E01 that you did this treatment to and I love it.  My wife has a purple one on her keychain as well.  These are nice little lights.
When In doubt, C4

How are you doing this gunga?  Dremel?  by hand?

By hand.  Mask off the "reflector" with some tape.  Hand sand with brillo pad, abrasive deremel bits (still do it by hand) and 400/600 grit sandpaper.  Work slowly and check often so that you don't frost too much, otherwise you kill output.

One of mine has a polished reflector too.  Doesn't make much difference, it was mostly for fun.  Brasso and a Q-tip is good for that.

YOu can also clean up the dome with brasso and a toothpick if you over-sand it.
