This isn't yet another "My favourite tool is...." thread, what I want to know is what do you have that you simply could never part with and the reason why.  I did this a couple of years ago and it was a good thread.

For me I have many many gifts from members here and family and all of them are very special to me.  But is it all about the gifts?  Are things special for other reasons?  Below are a few of my choices.

First up is my Small Regular Sebenza.  Yeah yeah you've heard it all before but this for me is the folder.  Things are rarely perfect IMO but this comes about as close as you are ever going to get.  Every time I use it I think it's awesome and that has never changed.  I also know that if I sold it I'd never be able to afford another.

Next up is my Cold Steel Master Hunter.  This was the knife I was sorting to buy when we lost our baby.  Sounds cheesy I know, but as my surname is Hunter this knife is doubly important to me as he would have been a Master Hunter.  Great knife as well and one I'd never part with.

My Swisschamp is another which isn't going anywhere.  No sob story linked to this one, it's just a knife I wanted ever since I could remember and I remember my excitement at getting one.  It is also one of those tools I think everyone should own.

My Swisstool X is another choice.  This was the very first thing I was ever gifted here and it really made me feel part of the community here.  It was given to me by Dunc (with some input from Def) and is something which will remain with me forever.  It is also an awesome tool.

Lastly is my Cold Steel Triple Action Folder.  Why?  Because it's FRIGGIN AWESOME!!!    I just love it as it's probably as bad-boy as I will ever get and it appeals to the mall ninja in me.  It was also a gift from my good friend John (Gadget Guy) and also marked a time we beat the customs lot. 

So what are your choices?

Straight away I'd never part with...

My Leatherman Juice KF4. It is a really useful and UK legal tool, the colour is awesome and they don't make them anymore  I was lucky to get this one new from a fellow forum member but I imagine sources for new ones at good prices will begin to dry up.

Also my Leatherman k502x knife. Again discontinued and again got in a trade with another member here  The k502x if you're not familiar has a 154CM blade along a bit driver and can opener. It is a heavyweight knife, looks great and performs better 

Although tbh I find it really difficult to consider parting with any of mine  That may sound weird but I like them all and wouldn't want to see them go. I suppose if a great offer of something I was really keen I could trade guilt free, maybe.

A criminal would never use a TAF.  It isn't the knives that need changing it's the mindset of the "sheeple".

Well, some people might not be criminals but carry them for "self defense". Problem is self defense and self offense really uses the same tools, and you can never really know what a person would use a knife for. That's why I best like carrying a knife so small that the only way you can kill someone with it is to tickle them to death with it   But yes in many cases it is the mind of the people who aren't on this forum. I actually like carrying modded tools, because if I ever get stopped by the police I can say "look, do you think I'd spend hours doing this if I only wanted something to stab someone with?"

And there is nowt wrong in self defence either.  It may be illegal for us to carry both here and where you are for self defence but that doesn't make it wrong and something like the TAF would be a good choice with it's double edged blade.  If I could, I would carry it for that very purpose but I can't and I don't feel trained enough to do so.  That doesn't make "fighting knives" wrong though they just aren't suitable for where we are.

Based on the advertising of Cold Steel, Andreas has a reasonable point.  They market ALL of their stuff (except for the Big Rock Hunter) as some kind of magical self defense tool.  TOPS is the same way (Taliban Takedown?  Seriously?)
Also, again, I seriously, seriously dislike the term "sheeple".  It's condescending and lest we forget - normally when that term is used, it's because society as a whole doesn't agree with the worldview of a select few.

All seriousness aside, Leatherman Kf4 in Solar Yellow.  I used that knife for work for eight years, and I was overjoyed to find a NOS one when mine finally broke.

Cold Steel is all about SD yes - but they mainly market in a country which allows it so why not market for what they are in a place where that is the appeal?  If you aren't keen don't buy their stuff.  I like the tools for what they are and can se past their "intention" because I enjoy good knives.

Sheeple here and in my context refers to non-knife folk.  That's the reason why I put "sheeple" in speech marks was for that very reason to add to the generalisation given by the title.

There are countries that allow arranged marriage with kids, child labour and animal cruelty. Doesn't mean I can't get to want puke when I hear about it. Different cultures and different people within those cultures have different views on what is barbarism and what is normal behavior

A bit of advice, be very carefull about this area as SD links to many things including guns which is something people speak passionately about.  Respect other's cultures and beliefs as this is an international forum and you will get a varied opinion of such things.

I agree with Benner, as I am very passionate about self defence. I am not a violent person either. In 10 years of bouncing the bar scene, I've been in exactly 3 honest to god fights. However, when my life, or the life of my loved ones are involved I will not hesitate to use violence.
 
As far as what I would never give up, my Swisschamp. It has been my favorite since I fist got it. For a multi-tool my Swisstool. A true tank and my personal favorite combination  of tools.

Andreas I see nothing wrong with tactical gear. There is a need for it. If I was a soldier, I would definitely want a good knife. Possibly something better then the government would issue as its your life on the line. These knives are designed for those markets. There is also the martial arts people, etc...who train and use such gear just because. Doesn't mean they plan on killing people with it. In fact, if you want to get right down to it, I bet kitchen knives are responsible for killing more people then tactical knives in a given year. Kitchen knives are plentiful and come readily to hand. I wonder if anyone has any stats on the matter? 

 

I have a Leatherman Pulse that belonged to my father that I could never part with. Likewise, I have a pair of cheap American Camper multi-tools that both my father and I used on the outdoor archery range that holds a special spot for me also.

But if truth be known, I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to collecting MTs and such, and I can’t see myself parting with any items…come to that.

I've got a few in my collection that I couldn't part with , in no particular order .

first up is my Large regular Sebenza which was a gift to me by a member of BritishBlades . I wont go into all the details but I would never part with this knife .I also use it quite a bit too .

A Leatherman Skeletool which was given to me by ..... and is a very early model and while I've had other Skeletools come and go this one is staying right with me  

Victorinox Charles Elsener Signature Swisstool   I just smile everytime I look at this tool   This is what Multitool.org is all about   I have Grant , Bob and Tim to thank for this and its a real treasure . I once got very drunk one night and nearly gave it away   I'm sure Grant can remember . I'm so glad I didnt  

Another Swisstool and this time its an Australian Army issue in Black Oxide . Now I'm still a bit confused by this one   Multimat sent me the tool and Neil was involved too in some sort of three way trade but i cant remember actually giving or trading anything for it   Anyway its not going anywhere but please remind me guys if I owe anything for it .

Staying with Vic we have my little Waiter which was a gift from Mike   This is in my current EDC rotation and see's alot of pocket time which in some respects makes it worth more to me then all the above as it actually gets EDCed and is very usefull  and everytime I put it to use it reminds me of the Mike and the forum  

Moving away from Vic but staying with Switzerland is the Wenger SI which Ben Gave to me   its held in the same high regard as the Waiter from Mike but is not in my EDC rotation    Seeing how Ben hates Drawer Queens I had better put it right and carry it tomorrow  

Another is my Buck 110 which Gadgetguy sent me as a gift . I was proper made up with this and it has become one of my "T.V Knives " . I will sit and polish it with a soft cloth while watching a good movie . I find it very relaxing .

I've recieved ,many other gifts and treasured items from forum members but I just cant list them all but I am really gratefull .

My Joseph Rodgers Aircrew Knife although I've put it up for sale more then once and withdrawn it again  

My Vic Firstmate . I love this knife and wish I had a user I could EDC.


Last up are my two NIB Leatherman PSTs , one is an Riveted Japenese and the other is BO non Cap Crimper and both are staying with me

A very old Case Jack knife given to me by a dear friend - it belonged to her late father.

A 20 year old Swiss Champ which was my first "proper" SAK

Beaten up BO Paratool - most carried EDC

My dads Buck 505 (was his EDC before a term was ever coined)

My first proper knife, a Bear and Son's Mini Manager Lockback.  The bolsters are engraved with the year it was given to me and my initials.  A year later he passed away.

The Vic Tinker I had in my pocket when Liam was born.  Tinnie made me some custom scales for it that have my dad's birthday, my birthday, and Liams.  I will have to get some more made since we found out a month ago we are expecting our second in April.

Some sort of CRK knife.  I worked too long and traded too much to not have one.

My Spyderco Endura 4 Emerson Wave in Toxic Green.  I simply loooove this baby!

My Spyderco Military.  Of all my Spydercos, this one is my big user.  My "go to" guy.

My RAT RC-3.  I just feel that for any hard work, I can trust this baby to tackle anything.  Its the workhorse.

My Skeletool CX.  I've simply come to love this tool.  Its light (no bulky pouch), tough, love the outside blade and the caribeener to clip onto a belt loop if needed, and the attached clip.  Makes this a must for me.

My Benchmade Mini-Grip, the first Benchmade I ever bought while in USA on holiday. It's been back to Oregon for a repair since - and came back with new scales,clip, washers and omega springs. Love this little knife to bits

I have a few, including some knives that are made just for killing.  

I guess I will start with my smith and wesson HRT dagger.  I was riding through the desert in Moab, Utah and stopped on the slickrock to adjust my boot, and when I looked down I saw this wicked looking bootknife (with center "blood" groove and blacked out blade) laying on the rock without a single scratch.  It was brand new and has no marks from use at all.  I picked it up and tossed it into the safest pouch in my pack, and when I showed it to my father he made a sheath just for it.  I love the sheath too much to ever get rid of this highly-illegal-to-carry knife.  I guess I would only strap it on my belt if the sh*t reeeeeeaaaaallllly hit the fan and I had to defend myself and my family, and I would also have a few other armaments on my person as well.  



Next up would be my single PST.  It was a gift from my Grandfather and will be passed on to my son when he is old enough.

My Vic spartan lite was a gift from my wife for our wedding, so it stays as well.

My leatherman sideclip was a gift from my parents over 10 years ago, and I love it as a user as well.

I love my pulse so much that I will keep it till I lose it.

Last up, my Vic alox soldier and Wenger SI.  I just love the classic look and being able to say I have one from each manufacturer, because my wenger was made before Vic bought them out.

First, my Wegner Viking tops the list.  It was my first SAK, purchased with the help of my late grandmother when I was a teenager high on Macgyver back in the 90's.  Until recently, I thought I'd lost it, but having found it (and a SAK knock-off she gave me), I'm never going to misplace it again.

Second, my SAK Super Tinker is next after that.  It's a relatively new knife, which I got in 2007, but it's been a part of my EDC on-and-off since 2008, which makes it a darn special knife in my book.

Third, my LM Blast.  It was my first MT, and while it's not a part of my EDC, it's my favorite LM of all.

Fourth, and finally, my LM c301.  It's part of my weekend EDC around the house, has never let me down, spreads peanut butter, cuts through twine, opens up TRIO and LEGO boxes, and whatever else it needs to slice.  In the few months I've had this, it's wormed its way into my heart quite well.
