Help me find the perfect multiTool
on: September 05, 2010, 12:39:04 AM
I need some help.  I have a full collection of Benchmade knives, but find myself needing more functions.  I bought a leatherman skeletool cx and hate it.  It rusts, too big for not enough tools, and already lost one of the bits.

This will be for clip carry in a pocket to replace my knife.

Requirements:

Quality!  Price is not really a factor.
Knife blade (one hand opening)
Bottle opener
Philips bit
Pliers

Smaller and lighter the better.  I tend to use knives for mostly opening boxes, packaging, etc.

If it were me, I'd go for a Charge TTi or similar, then you have both straight and serrated outside opening blades, with a lot other useful stuff inside too.

Have you checked out the main site with all the reviews? http://www.multitool.org/
It might give you more ideas (and I'm sorry about your wallet :D)

Aren't those full size tools going to be huge in a front pocket of my shorts?  I'm thinking about a leatherman Juice C2 - looks like everything I would need.

Maybe try a silicone cloth once in a while?

I can't imagine what you've done to your Skeletool CX to make it rust. Mine has prob seen more of a beating than any other CX on here and that includes spending time in water rather frequently.
Bits are also very easily replaceable

I do think a Juice might fit you though, but it's not OHO.

If you can live without the OHO function, how about a Victorinox Spirit :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

One of the Wenger Rangers sounds like it my fit in every way but the OH. I'd really like to know why Wenger doesn't offer OHO on their Ranger models that have pliers.

I'd say go with a Charge TTi, Ti or XTi.  Full size but had pocket clip, bits & OHO.  And the titanium models are not too heavy.  I can't speak for the other models because I don't have them.
