Swap the LED module from your G2L over and you have an 6PL.  :D

Sean,

Good grab on that, for what you get the price is real good. But had I known you were looing for something along these lines I would have directed you to check out a Solarforce L2.......a near clone of the SF-6P, made nearly as well, fully 6P compatible, and much cheaper.

That said the SF-6P is very customizable and you can lego the hell out of them. I've done this to mine as well as a few Solarforce L2's I have. And I would highly recommend ditching the P60 incandescent lamps and getting yourself a decent drop-in for it. The SF LED assembly you have from your G2L is alright but there are much better and higher output lamps available for very inexpensive cost.

If you really want to have fun look at the whole line of L2 accessories from Solarforce.......drop-ins, cell extenders, tailcaps, heads, bezels, bodies, etc. Nearly all work with the P-Series lights from Surefire and the quality is real good. And while they are also compatible with Surefire's C and G Series too, some of the Solarforce tailcaps don't work well with the G2's. You can see a small smattering of Solarforce L2 stuff here: http://www.lighthound.com/Solarforce_c_168.html

Also for a FYI, the factory Z59 tailcap/switch that comes on the 6P's is weak and they fail easily (the Z48/Z49 tail assemblies are much better, but a bit pricey). I've gone through two Z59's already on my 6PD.....got a Leef McClicky for it. I do have 2 of the updated Solarforce L2 tailcap assemblies, a version 3 and a version 4, and both have outlasted the factory Z59's I've had. And I have used both on my 6P, 6PD, and my C3 without problems but now both reside on legoed up L2's. And they cost much less than their Surefire counterparts.

Lots of fun stuff you can do with the P-Series lights.

Thanks 2xtap will check all this info out.  :tu:
That is a really kewl website with alot of good thing for sale!  I'm going to be spending some time checking
and taking it all in what they offer for sale.  I just happened to come across this 6P on ebay, saw he shipped
worldwide, and put in what I thought to be a lowball offer not really thinking it would work out for me.
I've been looking at a few different flashlight companies and visually speaking, from a newbies perspective, I have
to say that Surefire has the best looking lights out there.  This is all subject to change as time moves on
and I gain more knowledge.  :)

Surefire lights do look cool, but they tend to be quite big for the battery option so not very pocketable.

Yes so far Jzmtl it's been sheath carry for me.  I do find the Surefire sheaths (although well built) to be a bit bulky on the hip.
What I might do is wait for my 6P to arrive, and then as 2xtap mentioned get a better LED for the 6p, then take the remaining lamp modules I have and see if can also order a couple of "hosts" for them cheap and end up with a couple of more lights to use?  :)

Sean,

There are numerous D26 drop-in lamp assemblies available from numerous manufacturers in a huge array of incan and LED versions (D26 is just another name for P60-P90 style lamps)......some real good ones can be had for real cheap as well.

As to hosts, like I mentioned look at Solarforce. You can get a complete L2 host for $19.99, all they need is a D26 drop-in and some batteries and you are good to go. The quality on them is excellent. Here's some pics of a few of mine, before I started modding them.....

If mine are any example, and I now have three different versions and a slew of extra parts, the machining and finishing on these L2's is excellent. And they are fully Surefire P & C Series compatible, with some compatibility with their G Series......so you can swap out pieces between them all. Here's a bit more recent pic of my three L2's......

The 6P was my first Surefire , and my Mag light killer , back in the late ninties . Still like the form factor , and tuffness . Good catch !  I put mine thru hell and back for years , till ti was finally stolen from the console of my truck .

Great pic's and thanks for the info!  I might grab that 3 mode d26, I think that'd be just about right for the
6p and what I'd need it for.  So you can pretty much build a quality light for about $50 plus taxes etc?

BTW, what is the difference from the Solarforce lights they have on ebay priced at $40 bucks or so with
300 lumen?  Is it a cheap drop in on those units?  Thanks.

Sean,

Not sure which ones on Ebay you are talking about......but go through a place like Lighthound and you could build a real good complete L2 with a Solarforce CREE R5 XP-G drop-in for a mere $38.00, and a couple bucks more for the batteries. Go with the host that has the type-2 anodizing and you can save another $7.00!

A good light with massive mod-capability for under $40.00 or so complete.

They now have a flat rate international envelope option for $13.45.

It's still expensive considering other US based shops can ship orders for $3.00 shipping (or free).

Hmmmm......that's not good. If shipping is too pricey it wouldn't really be all that worth it. Can't say for sure but there might be some dealers up in Canada that carry the Solarforce stuff.

What I was making reference to was if you go on ebay.com and type in "solarforce" it comes up with
about 8 pages of lights, and accessories etc for cheap, cheap, and free shipping or at most a couple
of bucks!  You are ordering from Hong Kong though so maybe in for a bit of a wait?  Anyhow this stuff
looks good.  :)

I've been studying Solarforce lights for quite a while and the L2R will be my next purchase, since I'm lacking a full-size flashlight for camping. :tu:

It's hard to say, could vary from a week to a month. But since you are on west coast you won't have transit through canada. I'm still waiting on a package that was released by customs almost two weeks ago...

L2R that runs off AA's right?  That should make a very nice camping light for you.  :tu:

Jzmtl,  it can be a drag waiting that's for sure.  Usually my stuff comes from "on continent" but even then
I've had tools arrive from Israel faster sometimes. :-\  Anyhow, it looks like I'll be waiting a bit for my 6P
as the seller thanked me for my payment but has to go out of town for a few and it'll be Wednesday before
he ships.  Anyhow, in a couple of weeks I would assume.  Hope your parcel gets there soon!

Yes, I tend to pick AA/AAA lights to be sure that, wherever I am, I can find batteries. :)

very good plan indeed.  I'm thinking of doing the same with Solarforce but put a tac front and back end on it
for walking the dog after dark.  I've a supply of 2300 ma nimh batteries which seem to work great in LED lights.

My first Solarforce L2 came from such a place. At the time it was called "Solarforce Store" on Ebay but I guess they had to change their name as they weren't actually affiliated with Solarforce. Anyway, they were out of Hong Kong. It took three weeks for my light to arrive.

If you spend some time over at CPF there are a ton of threads on the Solarforce lights, and the L2 inparticular. And a while back a thread was started over there on the Solarforce L2's when a bunch of us first started getting them......it's a good read with alot of info. Just do a search for Solarforce L2 and you'll get a bunch of pages worth of discussion. Here's one: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=228693
