Back when TV was really good: Inspector Morse

For my wife’s birthday I got her the complete set of Inspector Morse from the UK (good thing we have a region-free DVD player).

Great show. Detailed plots, fine acting,  and lots of “red herrings” to lead you astray when trying to solve the mystery.

There are some great British programs I really enjoy watching on the Knowledge Network.
That is one program I catch occasionally as well.  Nice gift to your wife.  :)
Another show I really enjoy watching is Midsomer Murders.

Midsomer Murders sounds interesting. Our local eclectic video store has them for rent, so maybe we'll check them out this weekend.

Speaking of newer TV, “”Wallander” with Kenneth Brannagh is pretty decent viewing.

We  enjoy watching the newer series, Inspector Lewis… but it’s not as good as the old Morse episodes. The stories feel like they have too many shortcuts and the viewer is not given enough pieces to try solve the puzzle themselves.

We also have the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes episodes, and just finished watching “I Claudius” a  few weeks ago. “I Claudius” is a  classic.

And  there is some Dr Who in our lineup (old and new ones).

"George Gently": quite new but situated in the 1960's starring "Judge John Deed" (also nice) Martin Shaw.

The old ones are way too slow, but the episodes from 2005 until now (with David Tennant and others) are fabulous. When you finish watching Dr Who you might look at the spin-off series "Torchwood".

If you like the acting of "Inspector Morse" John Thaw you may also like Kavanagh QC where he plays a barrister.
