Anyone ever bought or contemplated getting a Star Wars Force FX lightsaber?

I came across a video of one in action, meandering online trying to make my ribs heal a bit faster by not doing too much moving...and I must say..wow!

These models light up real nice with 64 LEDs in the plastic blade, even in sequence. They even have motion sensors that give you all the neat sound effects.

So I am sitting here and thinking if should get one or two for the wall?

Should I go for it? Would that be too nerdy? Unsure if I should...I will admit I am curious. That and it woudl blow the socks off the old one I had when I was a tadpole.

I think that they are pretty neat, but I would end up in quite a bit of pain if my wife found out I was even thinking of spending money on one.  She nearly flipped her lid over the Case Stockman I just ordered.  More power to you Dan, being single must rock as far as toys are concerned!

Seems cool, may as well buy it.  Nerd?  Dude, you have a garage full of multi-tools, SAKs etc... I don't think 1 lightsaber makes you a nerd.

 :D

EDIT: Woah that vid is cool, you need the double-ended Darth Maul one too!

I should have known...asking a bunch of enablers...what was I thinking.

Well when I pull the trigger...photos will be the end result when I get one...or two.

On a side note, I tend to be a fairly private guy...and with my injuries, I have had to open my doors to a lot of visiting people. I had to tell a couple of women I work with that my ribs were getting sore as they didn't really want to leave. They were enthralled with all my decorations and toys. I guess a light saber or two won't make much difference.

I know where you're coming from.  When I was recovering from my foot infection/operation, I too had the dangerous combination of money, freetime, the internet, and boredom!

And that was when I bought enough MTs/SAKs to equip most 3rd world armies!! :climber: :multi: :sak:

I wanted to buy a toy Lightsaber a couple of weeks ago but the wife said no. She said something about shoes and our kid...I don't know. Who the hell listens to women anyways? And as soon as I find my wallet(and testicles) I'm gonna go get me that Lightsaber!!!!!

There are positives though, one is that food just cooks itself, or so it seems. At 6 O'clock I sit down in the living room and 20-30 minutes later I hear "Supper's ready!!" and I get to eat. Then I walk away and the dishes get cleaned. And of couse after several years I have to admit that, occasionally, having clean clothes and bedsheets is nice. Of course nowadays I don't have to impress anyone but I still stink pretty.  8) 8)

I have two of the original Master Replicas Force FX lightsabers (before the company lost the SW licensing and Mattel took over).  The first one I bought was in 2003 and was Luke's lightsaber from ESB.  A year later, I found Luke's green lightsaber from ROTJ.  They're neat replicas but I wouldn't dare play with them because the polycarbonate blade scratches easily.  I used to see the display models at Toys R' Us and Best Buy and they were always beat to hell.

They're fantastic replicas.  The lighting and sound effects are really good and the lightsabers are all metal so they have a realistic weight to them.  If I had money, I would collect them all.  :gimme:

I use to have them displayed but now they're back in their original boxes and kept safe.  The Thinkgeek lightsabers are Mattel branded (IIRC) but they're 100% identical to Master Replicas Force FX lightsaber.  Mattel just took over production when MR's Star Wars contract expired.

Ok...no need to bend my arm anymore. I just pulled the trigger on the 3 removable bladed models. That would be Anakin Skywalker’s Episode III Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader’s and Obi Wan’s Episode IV A New Hope. I was going to get Darth Maul’s twin sabers in the fixed bladed version, but I found out they are going to release it in the removable blade model. If I like these, I may get a pair of those at a later date.

This is sort of fulfilling a childhood fantasy of mine, albeit at a much older age. I can recall playing with the neighbourhood kids as Jedi and Sith with sticks and singing the Star Wars theme badly in tune link a bunch of drunken gerbils. I also remember we would pair off…Big Wheels versus Green Machines as Tie fighters and X Wings. I remember all of us screaming pew pew pew at the top of our lungs. :D

I promise photos when they arrive.

As a kid, I would wait for the family to use up the cardboard tubes of gift wrap paper and then I would take those long cardboard tubes and fight with them as if they were lightsabers.  Heck, with my young neices and nephews, I still do that now.  :D

I'm not sure if Thinkgeeks has them but I believe both lightsabers do exist.  I've seen the Mace Windu version in stores and I remember hearing that Dooku's is also available now.

At Thinkgeek, they have the following:

Non removable bladed models are:
Yoda, Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, Asajj Ventress, Mace Windu, and Luke (ROTJ)

Removable bladed models are:
Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan, and soon, Darth Maul.
