Keychain Light with a Clicky?
on: October 27, 2010, 05:22:47 PM
Alright, as the title states, I'm looking for a good keychain-sized light that uses a clicky instead of a twist (I find twists tough to use because of arthritis in my wrists/hands).  Thoughts?  A low mode would be nice but not totally necessary.

How small a "keychain" light does it need to be?  My first thought is the Preon 1 with a Clicky tailcap.  Another option would be the Jetbeam BK135A, but it's a bit larger as it's a AA...

The Leatherman Monarch 300 is a AAA with clicky, as is the Streamlight Micro Stream.  Both good lights with moderate light levels, not pocket sized photon blasters though.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

I can second the Monarch 300. I recently got one in a combo package with a Freestyle and I was pleasantly surprised with the brightness.

The Preon 1 looks kind of interesting.  I have a Monarch 300, don't like it that much.  The finish is awful and was badly scratched in about 3 days on my keychain.

If you don't need to be able to take it apart, http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26988 is the best bang for the buck I've seen in that category. The build quality is excellent, it is very bright, has nice thro (which is of course not good if you prefer flood) and the price is ridiculously low

I just bought one, along with its cousin, the Tank007 E06. It's the 2xAAA version. It has a different emitter, but apparently you can swap the heads around. And it comes with a pocket clip. I don't have them yet, but I'll do a review when I do.

I have a review of the single AAA: http://andreasodegard.com/2010/10/tank007-tk-703-flashlight-review/

I'm going for a Preon kit though. I just love how everything can be taken apart and swapped around, gives you so much more flexibility and makes it easy to fix if something is broken. But the price is also much higher on the preons
