Chako,
I wish you fast recovery.   I broken my ribs last year. As I did not want to take any anti-pain pills - it was a painful experience. Could not sleep in a bed for several weeks - only in armchair. But I thought that pain is a good warning how not to make wrong moves. A friend at work told me that it is possible - even when I am recovered completely - to feel my ribs when weather changes but now I am absolutely OK and do not feel any pain.  :tu:

As to your motorcycle - I do not know if I got the point.  ???  Here, we have several insurance agencies. Everybody who has a vehicle has to buy an obligatory insurance from any agency and if one wants more insurance - can buy additional packet. If anything happens he keeps his car/motorcycle - if insurance guys state that repair cost exceeds bike cost - they will pay some money to the owner but anyway he keeps his bike/car! He may put it in the living room as a statue, sell good parts taken from them or repair by himself. How it is possible to take away his own property? I really do not get it. Very sorry for your Triumph. BTW what model was it?

I think that Ural is not the good idea. Here, these motorcycles always were named as 'DIY kit' - poor paint, poor welded joints etc. Maybe you should think about Royal Enfield with side car?  >:D I have always wanted RE but never bought. Beautiful English/Indian singles...  :D

Heel fast! All the best!

My right hand thumb is still only about 80 Percent operational. That is bad enough. Perish the thought of the arm. :D

Well I mentioned the side car Ural to my friend. Once he stopped rolling on the floor with tears coming down his eyes with laughter routine, he told me I was nuts. He is probably right. Going to learn everything I can about side cars and motorcycles before I go any further.

At this point, still no clue what I want or need. I was going to get a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 originally, and then I fell in love with the Triumph. I am worried that the Vulcan is half the bike that I had. After reading plenty of reviews, I think I may be right.

The Triumph is exactly what you need, and if you love riding, it doesn't matter what you ride as long as you practice safe habits.  I know guys that have been hit on mopeds, they were driving like idiots.

I would give my left smurfcicle for a Triumph.

Ducati.

Practice saying it.  Ducati.

Yes, and if you don't care about insurance rates.

I have no interest in racers. I am more attracted to the older classic style motorcycles.

I think a Royal Enfield 500cc might be just what the doctor ordered mate :)

And being a light weight bike, with sorted off road geometry not to mention grip finding power pulses from the single cylinder engine, you've a perfect year round bike, even during a Canadian winter :tu:

More importantly for Canadian winter: What's the alternator output?  ;)

That is a nice classic.

I do know that whatever I get, it had better have a fuel gauge. A fuel gauge is a must, something that my America didn't have.

Very hard to make them accurate (Bike leaning means fuel sloshing)   Low fuel light and Odometer are more precise.

It would be nice to have a gauge I think...but a low fuel light would be grand. The America didn't even have that

Just the "Reserve" selection on the fuel petcock?  (I wish more modern bikes had this btw...)

I had to break down and buy new shoes yesterday. I had a pair that was held together by ducktape and they lasted almost 3 years but they became so uncomfortable that I had to break down and buy a new pair. Those look almost brand new. Very fixable.

So you had to light a match and look inside the tank frequently to see if there was any gas in it  ???
