Icon Flashlights?

Anyone out there had any experience of Icon flashlights ???

The design's look a little, well, out there. But the specs seem reasonable where the runtimes are concerned :)

No experience of them, but they are strange looking.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Some of them look quite inventive like the Rogue series :) Other's look either gadgety, or just plain cheap n nasty :-\

That's the chinese line of the big boys isn't it?

They aren't like the Byrd/Spyderco collab, but they are involved somewhere down the line I believe.

Strange regulation on Icon flashlights.....

Let's just say they're more for the general public and not for enthusiast consumption, IMO.

Not played with any but I quite liked the Modus when it was announced, but then I couldn't find it for sale anywhere,

I think Hennies has them now but I've gone off them now, I guess it was just a school boy crush

I quite like the designs (I think ) certainly gets away from the 'tactical' black HA-III aluminium that almost every other modern light goes for.

The Modus looks like a prop from 'Space 1999'.  :tu:

I'm not really tempted to get one as such. But like Gareth stated they are a welcome departure from tactical torches, and really do look like there aimed at the ipod generation :)

The man behind Icon lights Paul Kim has been Surefires head designer for some years now.  On CPF when the Icon lights came out and guys got there hands on them some didn't understand the regulation used on them. There is a great review by selfbuilt somewhere on there that explains it great but what the light does is run at 100% output for 10 mins or so before it steps down in output in small steps that is hardly noticeable during use. This step down continues for another 10 mins or so until output is minimal. But once you turn off the light and turn it on and use it again you have 100% percent output again and the curve starts over again. It means that for the casual flashlight user who only uses there light for 10 to 15 mins each time always has 100% output and the batteries may last longer over the long term use. I have no idea if all the lights in the Icon line use regulation format but I found it interesting. I'll see if I can find the review for you Mike.

The Rogues and Moduses look like a great way to trap a bunch of crap in the side of a flashlight.  After handling a Rogue at Radio Shack, I decided I didn't like the performance-to-bulk ratio that the "potato peeler" fins added to the light.  The Solo may be one of the ugliest lights I've ever seen, but would probably be tougher than a lot of other penlight-style lights.  I'd kind of like to pick up a Link for my father-in-law...it might finally be a light tough enough that he couldn't tear it up, easy enough to clip to something that he wouldn't lose it, and brightly colored enough that if he did, we could find it :P
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!
