Howdy! A bit overdue introduction...
on: November 30, 2010, 09:25:00 PM
Howdy!

Well, I lurked for a long while, then set up an account and posted maybe twice in a year or two, but now I'm trying to make up for it a bit.  :D

I hail from sunny ( ::) ) southwest Ohio and work as a test engineer for a division of my company that designs and produces launch vehicle and spacecraft avionics.

My primary multitool interests are SAKs.  I got interested in SAKs in the boy scouts when I was young.  I later stopped carrying a knife for awhile.  Then, a few years back, I got interested in knives again and had a brief fling with one handed single blade tacticool style knives before rediscovering SAKs.

I have enjoyed lurking, and now posting, on this forum.  It seems to be one of the most friendly forums of the many I visit.  I like the occasional () off-topic post and the fact that a thread doesn’t get immediately closed if it is slightly similar to one that already exists.

I also must admit to being very amused by the humor of those that hail from the island across the pond.  You guys (and gals) crack me up! :tu:

Not my pics, but here are some shot of a couple of the vehicles that have flown with our hardware on them.

The 1st is an Atlas V (AV-010) that launched the New Horizons probe that is on its way to Pluto.

The 2nd is a random Delta II

The 3rd is the Ares-I X Test flight.

Thanks!

I've only had the opportunity to see one launch (the Pluto New Horizons launch), and my pics didn't turn out that great as we were too far away.  So, I've borrowed all of the above pics.  The one here is one I took from about 3 miles away (as close as you can get due to safety concerns).

Although I did get to meet Bill Nye the Science Guy there!

Thanks!

If you're referring to the shuttle or astronaut SAKs, unfortunately I don't own either...

But since I am more of an alox fan, and I don't like shelf queens, its probably better that I don't.  :D

Most obviously overlooked question:

Did you ask Bill Nye what type of MT or SAK he carried?  :ahhh

Unfortunately I wasn't back into SAKs at the time, so I don't know...  :(

Welcome, Dave!

You have a cool job! When I left school, I was thinking of studying air and space technology. But I am really bad in maths, so I gave myself no chance in this and did something else. I am still fascinated by anything that leaves our planet, and if I had the money I would spend a few days out there. :D

That would be very cool.  I must admit I'm a bit envious of those who can afford to be "space tourists."
