Victorinox Sailor Knife with Horn scales?
on: January 27, 2011, 12:27:10 AM
does anyone have any information about this unique sailor model?
I have only seen these in Alox...
looks to use the same spike as the alox model.

They are older, probably from the 1940's or older and sold as a strong Farmers type knife in various blade configurations.

Look at this;

Oh, and the "Spike" was sometimes used as a "Sacking Needle" in the agricultural business. Lots of uses on a farm.

The horn scales will shrink and warp some over time. The tools hold up well as can be seen in those auction photos. These tend to be more collectors items rather than users in general. There are a couple of different lengths and you will find both manufacturers make these. I have seen some with and without  the fancy bolsters.

The sacking needles are much sharper, than those adapted to the Alox models.

Proper rare fancy pants SAKs.  I've never even seen one in the flesh, only pictures.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Awesome pics guys! I remember bidding on one of those sacking needle SAKs on eBay... I didn't win, obviously.
You should seriously visit vicfan.com. All the hoopy froods are doing it.
