LM Surge help
on: October 08, 2007, 11:32:29 PM
I have had my surge for about a month now, and i love it alot. I have only one problem. While i had a sak beforehand, it didn't really need cleaning, so i am inexperienced in cleaning a multitool. I have been using wd-40 as the oil, and i keep my blades and tools clean. I have a problem with my normal blade being not as smooth as the serrated one, in terms of ease of opening. I have also had a problem with the handles, with one being obedient and the other being >:D. How should i oil these correctly? Thanks in advance for the tips in advance.   ;D

Here are some of the better ideas I had:

http://www.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=127&Itemid=35

Works for multitools too!

If a blade is "gritty" and you can't clean it with dish soap and/or a toothbrush, try using unwaxed dental floss between the blade and the sides of the tool and you might get some good gunk out.  Be careful when doing this with the blades open!

Thanks... there are a few good ones there, but you have to search through lots of crap to find them! :P

I bought three of these cleaning sticks from www.countycomm.com and they work great for things like SAKs and multis.  And they are cheap!

I have been using wd-40 as the oil

One of the big mistakes people make with knives, multitools, pliers, pruners, cutters, etc.  AND locks is they use a wet lubricant to get them freely working. This works, for a limited time... what happens is the wetness attracts dust, dirt, etc to eventually build up and cake and eventually causes problems with the dirt caking. A weapon is different because you can open it up and break it down and properly clean it and WIPE it with a cloth sprayed with a wet lubricant.

To eliminate this " caking" problem I always use dry graphite to lubricate locks, knives, multitools, etc. , then there is no wetness. True the graphite is a little messy to use, but usually a dry brush can clean up any mess on the tool and then wipe the implement(s) down with a cotton cloth.

Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !

I just use a hot soapy water and a tooth brush, and make sure it's completley dry before I put it away, a hairdryer helps if your in a hurry :)
