Gareth,
That's great to hear you have put my mind at ease in the batoning department.

Since we're on the survivorman knife topic, here are shots of my primitive two, as well as their accompanying mulittools when out and about in the bush..

Cheers,
Serge
Nice rig mate :tu:

I won't say you couldn't break a stick tang, but I can say I never have. :D  In fact I split a pile of branches while out hiking at new year using my Marttiini Lynx, not worried once while using it.

I'll second this!

I've got a Issaaki Jaavenpaa Puukko (spelling?) at the boat, and use it for battoning A LOT!!! Ironically the baton I use is the handle of a cheapo hatchet from Wilko's which I keep meaning to convert into a cutting implement (certainly wasn't bought as one - chops as badly used either way round - LOL) but never seem to get round to. Along with a couple of Mora Miki's and a Brussletto Somethingorother (?), I do like a Scandi ground edge for wood processing - though obviously tend to lean towards the Granny B's & Bahco for the heavier work

  • When in doubt, use a bigger hammer.

That is a very nice looking blade  :tu:
But what's the jimping (gimping?) on the top for?
Chuck Norris' preferred iron supplement is rebar.
