Aw, shucks...

Thanks, fellas!

It was a fine birthday. Breakfast with my mom, step dad, brother and his gal, my wife, and daughter.

Then the three of us went home. My daughter made me a card, I got the boots, and we had a rather relaxed day together. Took my daughter to see Santa, did some shopping, had a coffee with the missus. I picked up a replacement for my lost wedding ring. (tungsten carbide! )

Then my wife took me out for a nice steak dinner.

The kind of day that you want to last forever. The kind you wish you could save and live all over again whenever you want.

I hope all of you have a day like that coming to you very soon. My wish for you in thanks for the well wishes.

Cheers!
G

I love the look of tungstn rings, be careful not to drop it or bang it hard they can be a bit brittle

And happy birthday sounds like you had a good one

Yeah, I certainly won't let it see any impacts.

I did a lot of research, and considered platinum, but... Tungsten carbide has a certain appeal to it. And of course the price is low comparatively speaking.

Best things about it are the mirror finish and the weight. It feels very solid, like stone. I find myself taking it off just to fidget with it. The smooth surface is a pleasure to wear and handle. Combined with the density of the material giving such heft.. It is downright fascinating.

I went with this: http://www.tritonjewelry.com/Jewelry.action?attributes[0].id=28&attributes[1].id=171&productType=11&style=2127HC&brand=07

The new "white" TC. Looks like very shiny platinum.

Considering Triton's lifetime replacement warranty, I feel like I made the right decision. Any of you fellas that need a new ring, or are looking to take your girl down the aisle.. I strongly urge you to go and see them at a jeweler.

Be sure to go with a reputable brand like Triton that alloys the TC with nickel instead of cobalt. One of my pals has had his cobalt alloy TC ring for two years and it is tarnished and pitted like crazy. Looks terrible, and can't be fixed.

You'll have to copy and paste that URL I suppose. I can't seem to get it to link directly. Perhaps a mod can correct my mistake?

Ah.. thanks, Gareth!

It is simple, but I felt like simple really let the material do the talking.

One friend commented that it looks like a platinum version of "The One Ring". I suppose she is right.

And she is also a huge nerd for saying that out loud.
 ;)

If I remember my movie trivia right, the 'One Ring' was in fact just based on one of the crews wedding rings.  They'd needed a ring to do some pre-production test shots and just borrowed one from a crew member until they had something more permanent worked out.  Peter Jackson liked the look of the thing so much he basically just copied it for the real film. :)
