Victorinox Spring Fixing Kit.
on: December 19, 2009, 03:47:53 PM
Talk about an impulse buy, but I can't resist tool kits I guess. Got this from Switzerland.

It comes in a very nice wooden case.

Laugh all you want, but I bought this thinking it would have an assortment of pens, toothpicks, etc. The photo wasn't all that great. Little did I know Victorinox sold a kit to repair springs on scissors, etc. Well now I do.

I am rather pleased with it actually. It is a very nice kit. Instructions, an assortment of springs, screws, a knife vise, and 3 hand tools came with it.

The kit looks very nice. I was tempted many times to buy one, but managed to restrain myself, as collecting primarily Alox (no scissors  ), I only had to change the spring once so far, and it was a pretty straightforward exercise using a thin nailset and pliers. If you do buy a lot of used SAKs, however, it is a must-have.

I'm surprised at the number of different spring types in that box, are they all for current production items or does it cover  older models too?

Chako, I have the Vic tool kit that you were looking for. I would love to trade some of my parts from the kit for some of the parts from your kit if you're interested. Just send me a pm if you are.   :tu:

I just got that kit from eBay. Used it, too - it works very well, esp if you have lots of knives like I do and need to replace springs on a regular basis. A couple notes:

- Be VERY careful with the green tool. The pins on it are very thin, and break easily. Ask me how I know.
- It does contain older springs. In fact, this is the best place to get the older springs - even has 5 of the old single leaf springs.
- Use a small mallet to tap the spring in/out, not your hand like in the instructions. Not much force is needed.

Useful bit of kit :)

I tried to put a new spring in without the tool and eventually gave up!

I really like that kit.  I got it because I wanted to check out the jig, and for old springs it includes since I collect a few of the older models.  Of course I love tools, and thought I should certainly have SAK specific ones and that these kits might not be around much longer.

The other spare parts kit with pens, tweezers, toothpicks, etc. comes in a plastic box, but at least it has an interesting lock mechanism to keep it closed.

I got one of those spring kits off ebay a while back.  They're normally too expensive for what they are for a normal user/collector but if you have a lot of used SAKs and you can grab one cheap then go for it.  That said with practise I got down to under thirty seconds swapping a spring with just a LM P4 :D
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

What are those little round things in the bag used for?
