Wenger Farmer.

I guess I really should ask the question over on sosak, but I'm lazy :D so here goes...

How easy difficult would it be to add a saw to a Wenger SI ???

I'm not a modder, so I'd be curious to know if it could happen whilst retaining the bail and other features of the SI ???

If I ever have any spare cash, I'd be seriously tempted to approach a modder to see if it could happen  8)

I love the SI, and adding a saw to it would be a brilliant idea. A couple of issues though:
1) Since SI is the only 93mm Alox from Wenger, there are no Wenger-made saws for that size. Vic saw may have diffeent size/position of the "front" rivet.
2) According to the king (or, at least a crown prince) of modders (scibeer), it's a big pain to get even the regular rivets to look good on alox SAKs. I would imagine that the hollow rivet would be even worse. That said, I am not sure if Roger (+B) have been putting together his alox splash farmers himself, or, if Vic factory did it for him. In either case, he mostly deals with Vics...
If it is simply a matter of hollow rivet, however, you may be more successful with the mod on Vic Farmer. Drill out the hole and put in a hollow rivet. I know, easier said than done...

Alexei, your answer is textbook perfect, except that I think the SI may be the only Wenger that would be reasonable to transplant Victorinox parts like the saw onto.  The heads of the pins indeed would still be a pain, as would the hollow rivets, which is why Victorinox dropped them in '94.  Getting the hollow rivet strong enough to do the job and neat enough on the outside takes a certain amount more effort (which equals cost) than just the regular solid pin.

This is just what I have learned from SOSAK discussions over the years though, and I haven't tried it myself.

Thanks for you answers fella's :)

See this is my thinking, The Wenger SI, and a Victorinox Soldier are about as close to identical as you can get from two rival manufactures, so I figured it was within the realms of possibility that it could happen, but that the bail/hollow rivet would be the major stumbling block :-\

Just thought i'd drag this thread back up....for no other reason than i can! :D Now that Bill (scibeer) is here maybe he can provide some more insight into this! Another question while i'm dragging this back up, is why do you want the features of the Wenger over the Vic?

Mainly because I'd like a matching set of sak's from rival companies, and because I prefere the main blade on the SI over the one on the farmer :)

As you can see above, it is possible to include the hollow rivet and bail on these mods.

I can see no reason why you couldn't add a Vic saw to a Wenger SI.  However, I'm not an expert--I only play one on TV.
