Vintage BenchMark Carolina Hunter fixed blade
on: February 09, 2011, 05:07:20 PM
Recently i bought this BenchMark Carolina Hunter in new & unused condition from the unsold stock of a long gone hunting & fishing store in the Netherlands.
The knife came in it's original box & complete with a well made leather sheath, papers, and a number of original yellow BenchMark patches.
It's a very well made knife with nice details like the soldered brass guard and the wild duck shield in the back of the handle.
Although the brochure says that this model was only made with cocobolo, "stick stag", or black Micarta handles, the box states that the handle on this knife is made from mesquite wood.
The serial number on the knife is AD382 (March 1982) which corresponds with same number on the box.

Specs:

Overall length: 8 5/8" (21,8 cm)
Handle material: Mesquite wood
Blade length: 4" (10,1 cm)
Blade thickness: 3/16" (4,8 mm)
Steel: 440C stainless
Weight: 8 oz. (165 gram)
Sheath: Leather

Benchmark is still around, and they make some very cool stuff.  I was eyeballing a 1095C steel neck knife with a micarta handle a while back.
