Gerber Scissors
on: September 30, 2010, 09:38:38 PM
Would anyone like to comment on Gerber scissors . Brand new MP400 , the scissors cut paper very well  :D but when I tried to cut a strand of cotton from a T-shirt it wouldnt cut it  :(  I tried different strands of meterial and it still wouldn't cut single threads . Both Vic and LM would cut the same pieces . Gerber claim their scissors will cut Seat belts well Gerber they DO NOT ! I tried it on my own car  :o  Unless your seat belts are made from paper ( and then I'm sure it would do a great job ) you just aren't going to cut through it .I don't like starting Gerber bashing threads but when the scissors are this underperforming then its hard not too .

After the discussions in the Flik thread I posted, I did in fact wander off and pick up an MP400 and I'm not a fan of the scissors, either.  While they'll cut, they are really uncomfortable to use compared to my Wave scissors.

Mine will cut thread without problem, not going to try the seat belt on my car thou.  :P

I think yours may not be sharp, while it'll shear papers it cannot cut through the softer thread and fabric and just squish them.

When I had my 400, it struggled to cut softer, finer materials. It was great on cable ties though, which is what it mainly cut.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Next time i go to pick and pull i will have to take a bunch of multitools and do seatbelt cutting research. We all ready did window breaking research.  :D

Mike
I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

I have a Gerber 400(I think) that is about 10 years old and the fiskars scissors are  the only thing I like about the whole tool!

I have always preferred the fiskars on this tool  to any scissors on LM or SAKs(Vic or Wenger), I haven't tried to cut seatbelts but they never failed at anything else I tried them on.

Maybe they have changed over the years...

Well I just got another MP400 and the scissors are spot on  :tu: They will cut very thin single threads etc.  Much better then the previous tool . Still don't think they are man enough to go through seat belts though . Although I doubt I would ever use it to cut seat belts anyway
