I didn't realize the MP400 was miltitary issue .

Just found out today that the Multi-Plier MP400 compact Sport has a MSN Number . Its 5110-01-462-3405 . The fifth and sixth numbers ( 01 ) signify it was the U.S Military that registered it first .
I knew the big 600 series were issued but didn't know about the 400 . I wonder who gets issued them

What makes you say that ?  If the country code ( 01 ) is for America then it stands to reason they issue it to certain U.S military forces or units . Other countries can of course still issue them if they choose to but the original country code stays the same .

There are a lot of products with MSN numbers, all goods sold through the PX's need an MSN number  so it is not necessarily  "issued" to the military, but more commonly sold through the PX's at great prices for the mil boys.

But it does have top be approved by which ever country issues it . The Victorinox Swisstool for example carries a NATO Stock Number that originates in Norway . This is because it was them that tested and authorised its use for issue .
