New SAKwiki Model Menus / Index By Layers

Hi,

If you look at SAKwiki you will see a new menu on the right labeld "Victorinox Models", from there you can navigate to the list of knives by name for a selected size.

The Idea is that in some way a menu like this would also be available to take you to the 'index by layers' for a selected model size. It could be a double column list in the new menu, or it could be an extended list, or other options.

In addition "Wenger Models" would have their own menu as well.

Right now the menu is just linked to the master list for ease of maintenance. In theory a new "Master list by Layers" would be created. It is possible that we could break up the master list into individual pages by model size. I guess that should be another poll.

Right now the "The Lists" menu is still present and operates as it always did. If the new Model menues were adopted then "The Lists" would become "Other Resources" and "Knives, Tools, Series, and Tangs" would likely be moved to their Model Lists.

The world is not ideal as the Wenger organization is more complicated; the master list is partially by name, and partially by layer. That's not likely to change, but in theory Wenger by Layer index would be more straight forward.

Menu prototype altered a bit to show one possible layer selection option. and a third colum where an icon could go to jump to the image library.

Created a Layer org concept.

I created a few links to 93mm by layers, and a couple 91mm by layers in the menu. The knives by layer are in a table and I decided that it would be a good place to record some other related information. Does this seem like a good way to go? Wondering if they should all be on their own page (91mm 1 layer) or on a big master list as currently done.

Those saying "No" can you tell us why, maybe something we can address?

With something like 100 views and only 14 respondents I take it no one is really too concerned about it. So I won't worry about any committee stalemate and just get on with it.

If you look at the 84mm layer links from the menu, that is more or less what you can expect. The others were the prototypes.

Early Warning, since I separated the Master Knife List into Vic and Wenger, I've decided the future is to further bust it down by frame size now that we will transition to the new menu system. This will make the server bandwidth lower in theory not having to display the entire list when you're just interested in 1 size. It will also make the site easier to use on smaller screens.
