Got my hands on all 3 of the SAK's rescaled by  Russell so I thought a group shot











Of course now I need to pick a favorite .....its going to be tricky

I know what you mean but I think they have more life in them now Before they would never be carried and would have spent there life in the class C Drawer (top drawer it a dark and depressing place .... now the are stars of the main display and will be used every day

How much do old soldiers go for usually? and are they just on Ebay or can they be found elsewhere?

Not as much as you think. I picked a couple up on eBay in the last few weeks.
The year/condition is the only factor in the price they go for.
My last 1944 Elsener soldier cost me 70 Euro delivered and was in excellent condition.
But i've seen them go for as little as 40 Euro even in good condition.
My vintage 1893 Elsener soldier was much more.
A nice one would be over 300 Euro in very good condition.
There are a lot of them out there.

As a rough guide

The 1884 model A this is the one that the replica is based on .... made until 1908 by many companies drop point blade (same as most modern SAKs ) is 300 euros plus if you can find one , prices are also dependent on manufacturer Elsener and the original German ones seem pretty popular

1908 Model This is the one you find most of, the blade is changed to a clip point, the year stamp started in 1921 and they went stainless around the same time , so lots more about , Only Rare if you are after certain year stamps when shopping look out for very worn blades a lot of these have been sharpened on wheels and the blades have melted away (get to know the shape of the blade the clip point is a good indicator on photos you can often tell the dimensions of the rest of the blade from that) . if you just want a user head for the years 1939 - 1941 for some reason production was pretty high  , also non vintage 'E' and 'P' blades can be a bit of a bargain.

1951 much smaller model back to a drop point .... no where near as robust as the 1908 can be pricey look out for the red plastic (secret swiss plastic  ) from about 1957 up to 1964 they are more expensive but I like them

You will need to use ebay.com or ebay.ch as the uk one has its block on all things pointy and sharp, if you use ebay.com make sure you set the search for world wide and try using Messer and couteau

Oh and don't be afraid of cracked or damaged scales they can be replaced

Thanks for the info. How do you purchase them off ebay? I've tried to buy stuff on ebay.com and just get the circumvention of blades lecture.
