Leatherman T-Rex ?

Apparently there is a new ERT from leatherman called T-Rex

At least that what their FB page implies: https://www.facebook.com/leathermanusa

The description says it has a strap cutter, glass-breaker, hex-bolt and oxygen bottle screwdriver tools.

Sounds like a One Piece tool to me ..

Nice concept, but in fact just another rescue hook. Get a Benchmade, they have them in stock, and this t-rex seems to be very inspired by the Benchmade hooks

Nice idea, but i'm with Woz; it's just another hook. Not too much that's special about it, except the steel may stay sharper for a little longer, but sharpening it with that profiled edge is going to be a bear.

Resharpening shouldn't be much of a problem, if this tool is used for its intended use. Lke most other rescue tools it will not be used very often, hopefully never. A rescue professional will not use a hook, there are much better professional tools out there. A rescue hook is for people like us, who li,e to be prepared. Maybe the police uses them, but in most cases they will wait for firefighters to arrive (here in Austria firefighters are the people helping in ar accidents, it may be different somewhere else). Maybe few climbers too, but they will not have to cut there strings every day too. So in fact, if it is sharp when it comes from the factory, that is just fine.

Maybe there are some crazy guys out there who use a hook to cut boxes every day. Guess they would have a problem sharpening the tool, but again, that is not what the hook is intended for.

I am guessing that Leatherman leaked this tool for a reason, to put their feelers our. There is a small market for it, imho. How many of us will smash glass or cut straps in the rest of our lifetimes though? I am guessing very few. I came upon this situation once and had my original Wave on me. The problem was that the cheap Honda folded on the girl's legs like a cheap caedboard box, so there was no cutting her out with any multi-tool.

On reflection I think I prefer the old Skool Benchmade rescue hook - I carried one for a while , only actual use it ever saw was while diving .

a local forum here, just posted a pic of a prototype T-rex. It's the first pic I've seen of the real thing. I invited him to join the discussion and maybe someone here has some more info about this tool.

So i didn't find any information abth this on any web site including leatherman.com

Only thing i knew abth this is this is a prototype from their official FB page...

So i wrote them a letter and asked them abth this ...

We never sold this tool you have and could not have used the name T-Rex. It was trademarked by someone else and we found out after we printed up those 100 samples. We decided on the name Z-Rex instead because the cutters now are in the shape of a Z. The prototype you had was made out of 154CM and features a cutter, but you cannot replace it like the new Z-Rex. There is a Hex driver and an oxygen tank wrench on your T-rex, just like the current Z-Rex, but no large hole for your small end finger to go though as an extra precaution for holding on in slippery or shaky situations. Also the new Z-Rex is made from aluminum and the handle is rounded. The T-Rex is one solid piece.

I hope these answers help you. The tool you have is a sample prototype and one of a kind. There were only 100 made.
