BTW Dunc have you thought about a Squirt PS4?  It won't open a can but it's still a pretty handy little thing and it's certainly pocket sized.

Squirt PS4   out of all the suggestions I like tyhat as the best alternative to the Juice . But will it be too small ?

I'm not going to doing anything rash ( I've already done that with my most recent purchase  ) but put a little more thought into this .

Have you handled one?  Obviously they're Micra sized and the blade is the same length as on a Style/CS, but the pliers are deceptively useful.

Unfortunatly the way the law works in Britain is a big hindrance. Its basically written with SAK or SAKesque tools in mind. My personal opinion would be to get a SAK if you want a legal blade.

But the Juice would fullfill the role and have the larger pliers . I've got SAKs coming out of my ears but I want something different and specific  ;)
If they're not doing it for you then by all means go for it. Also i'm sure SAKs coming out of your ears is a serious medical condition...

The Juice cs4 has large pliers, about the same size as Skeletool, but the only problem is, that little rounded thing sits in you hand like a piece of soap, you just can’t get a grip on the handles. So even thou big and potentially power full, they are actually a pair of nice little pliers.

I can only say good things about the scissors.

Haven’t tried to open a can with the juice. Once tried to open a bottle of wine, didn’t succeed, but I think that was tue to lack of practice.

I actually managed to open a bottle of wine using the Juice's corkscrew assist, without taking a lump out of my finger!  I consider  this to have been a runaway success. :D

BTW how are you getting on with the Squirt trials Dunc? :)

How are you getting on with the PS4 Dunc?  Too small or is it tool enough?

Its great  :D but a bit too small for main edc but I think I will get one to carry with my main tool or as a back up . Build quality is very good but the scissors aren't as good as the Style CS although as a package its very good and would certainly fit in my EDC rotation . It does make me want to try a Juice even more though .

I would definitely try a juice. Even with the negative aspects some have mentioned, it still is a very nice tool package. The plier snaps into the open position with a quality feel and and anodized handles are great to add a little color to your EDC. I carried an XE6 for over a year as my only knife and tool, and I quite got to liking it. I bought it together with a friend and he still carries his. I'm carrying a KF4 at the moment, but I added a vic classic to get some scissors. They are a bit pricey, but I'd start with an S2. Lovely orange color and has the basics. Oh, and the little leather sheath Leatherman makes for it is great!

I have no 1st hand experience with UK laws but when I am travel in knife unfriendly zones I carry a basic SAK (soldier, camper, hiker, etc) and my SwissTech MicroTech 6-in-1. These are not the best pliers but do what I need. I actually like them better than SAK pliers (cybertool, etc.) Many will find them too small though.

I have a juice s2 I use at work. excelent blade, great s/drivers, great scissors, never used the can/btl opener. Good pliers but only for light/medium duties, I tried to twist a piece of metal with mine, now the jaws are slightly out of alignment! Doh! Just bought a xe6 from H/H (£63), liking it, but havent used it yet. For size, quality, use and above all legal UK carry, I would go for a juice, the xe6 for all the bells and whistles, a s2 for light weight minimilist edc.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I just got myself a Xe6 as well.  I gotta say I think it's a bit thick for pocket carry myself, S2 would be much better IMO.

Whats your first impressions of the xe6 Gareth? I agree it is thick, the LM juice pouch with the elastic sides and belt clip fit it perfectly though. The saw blade seems a bit thin but I've seem no complaints on its use. How much you pay for it? Mines purple :( couldnt get the silver one at the right price! Pretty though!

Mine is second hand so obviously didn't pay full price, in fact you can see it here:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,5867.30.html

So, as you can see no choice in colour for me. :D  Though I gotta say I really like the purple.

Didn't get a pouch with mine but it carries OK in a standard LM nylon pouch.  I've been trying to work out if it is small enough to pocket carry and it might be, just.  Very much a matter of personal taste though.  The saw/awl layer is the biggest disappointment, the saw cuts very well but has to be guided closed so as not to snag on the liners and let the awl close.  As noted in almost every Juice review the awl is just a blunt 'poky thing', so not as useful as it could have been.  So far I've been happy with everything else though.

I'd advise a Juice paired with a scissored SAK.

My EDC is a Juice CS4 and a SAK (Compact,  or a  modded soldier w/ scissors).

The juice is a good little tool for daily carry and pretty much meets my day-to-day needs when paired with a SAK.

The cons of the juice CS4

  • floppy scissors. The scissors are poorly fitted, and they flop from side-to-side. As such they are terrible at fine work like cutting paper or trimming the occasional hangnail.  Vic scissors are infinitely better and that's why I carry a SAK with the Juice.  Also, it seems like the Juice scissors are made from a lighter metal compared to the Vic.
  • Combo tool: it can do only one out of its three intended functions;it can open bottles.  Again, this is why I carry a SAK with the Juice: Vics have a better can opener.

The Pros to the Juice CS4:

  • The juice crams more tools and in a more compact package than any 4+ layer SAK.
  • The Phillips and flat drivers are very useful.
The pliers beat anything that a SAK has.
  • Dull awl.  YES, this is a good thing. I have a sharp awl on the SAK, and I've found good uses for the Juice's dull awl as a pokey/cleany tool that won't damage surfaces.

Vic tweezers crammed here on the CS4 (plastic nub was trimmed flat with a sharp knife). Arrow is pointing at the plastic nub.

pliers comparison: Swisstool,  LM Mini-Tool, CS4 (note the mini driver in the corkscrew)

LM Mini-Tool, CS4, Swisstool

and carried this way (but rember to fold the scissors back in  :D))

Now I'm back with the Big old Swisstool as my main multitool it really is a bit too big for pocket carry . Its better off in my bag which is either in the house near the door or in my car with me so the Swisstool is never far away . But I need something pocket sized with half decent pliers that falls within the UK laws . I want something I can feel comfortable with just about everywhere .I do carry a SideClip or PST quite often but even they are uncertain with the UK law , while the knife blade doesn't lock the handles stop the blade closing so its a bit of a grey area .I'd also like scissors and screw drivers .

I'm thinking LM Juice   I've never tried these before but they certainly look like what I need .I've been reading mixed reviews about the scissors and can opener . I do use a can opener sometimes and I hate having a tool that doesnt do what its supposed to .I'm thinking S2 but will look at the other models . Has anyone got any size comparrison shots ?

I do think I need to try one though unless you can come up with something I like the sound of more  :D

One more thing is I've seen a couple of videos and reviews with broken backsprings , is this common ?

Sooooo, the Brit laws say your tool must be able to close on your hands?  That doesn't sound very safe to me...

I would be totally cool with just the S2 if I were in the UK.  They have some pretty decent pliers and the screwdrivers are great.
