Help with an odd tang stamp on an old soldier
on: April 15, 2011, 12:09:22 AM

Evening

Picked up a couple of old swiss soldiers

First one nice and easy 1925 Wenger with a slightly rough scales but fine metal work :)

But the second has me confused it is a 1908 pattern but the tang stamp I have never seen before .. it could be a german copy but it is very well made

any one seen that stamp before ?

Cheers

Anyone else with me when I say it looks like a pirate? Seriously though, I have never seen such a thing before.

That is awesome! No idea what it is, but it's AWESOME.

This has to be a new stamp for the Multi-Tool organization. The patent on that stamp has to be expired. Maybe we could adopt it?
I would live to see it on a couple on something in my collection.

That IS a pretty cool logo.  Can't find any info on it.  The ears spell "GB" and I can't tell from the pic but are the teeth made up of numbers?
This is called a Swiss Army Knife. Do you know what Switzerland is? Switzerland is a place where they don't like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate. - Larry David

My first thought is, do we know if it actually IS old, or if it just looks old. That tang stamp would fit in just fine at most of the headshops around here (it is a college town...). But it is neat.

Military "Swiss" knife originally produced in Solingen in Germany and later moved production to Switzerland.
This stamp is mark of company Gustav Branner, Stahlwarenfabrikation und Großhandel, Konstanz.
