Has anyone else tried this bit adapter on their SAK
on: April 30, 2011, 04:05:53 PM
I'm always looking for good ideas that I can use to make great tools even better.
I've been kicking this idea around for awhile. How about a removable bit adapter that would work with and slip over the flat screwdriver/bottle opener on a SAK. In my case, I would love to have a removable 1/4" bit adapter that would work with my SAK Trekker, Craftsman, Tinker, ect. In doing my research, I ran across this older thread that addressed this. Has anyone else tried making this adapter, how did you do it, and does/did it work for you ?

No - but I had considered something similar to solve my current missing Swissgrip adapter issue.

Is JB Weld similar to Milliput?

JB Weld is a 2-part epoxy that is basically liquid steel. After it cures, it can be machined, drilled and tapped, etc. It can withstand temps of over 500 degrees F. Great stuff, I've used it for all sorts of metal repairs and such. I've never heard of Milliput, so really can't help you there, sorry.

Looking for a bit adaptor that doesn't make me wince when I look at the price. Although, I've got a couple of small magnets, if I can't find anything else I put one of those in the bottom of a 1/4" socket. And if it works, maybe on in 4mm to, for the little bits.

Cheers JD,

Did a bit more sniffing and turns out Milliput is similar to JB STIK weld. I've never used JB Weld before - nearest I've used before is the Araldite range. I'll have to give it a whirl
