Component steel
on: August 11, 2011, 04:46:26 PM
I am interested in what steel is used for the SOG range of multitools, does the blade steel differ from the other components.

I did ask SOG, but they have not been forthcoming, strange though, Leatherman states what steel is used for the blades on most of the tools.

Just interested. :multi:

I've always heard that any knife that doesn't list the steel it's made of isn't worth owning. I can understand not wanting to incur the expense of marking the blades but not being secretive about it when asked.  I would suspect that a company that refuses to state what steel they use is using something not worth bragging about at best and something embarrassing to list as a blade steel (like J2 or 440A) at worst.

As far as I know, the blades are AUS 8 but that could have changed.
