PocketWrench II Frustration
on: April 23, 2011, 03:10:29 PM
After much research and conversation, I have decided to add a PocketWrech II to my EDC.  Next step, buy one.  I check local tool sources in hopes of getting one quickly.  No go.   Not one retailer in our area has even heard of the PW II.

Time to check online.  The PocketWrench II website has them for $14.95.  Ok, that's a little higher than the pricing that others in this forum have mentioned, but a good tool isn't cheap.  Hold on, shipping is $8.25!  I must be able to find more reasonable shipping charges somewhere else.

Next up is McFeely's.  Rats!  They no longer sell the PW II.

The only other PW II seller that I can find through google is Lee Valley Tools.  This is dangerous territory.  I am an avid woodworker.  Past visits to LV have resulted in me loosing all control and destroying my budget with a single purchase.  So I enter the website with great anticipation.  With great effort I am able to add only the PW II to my  cart at a price of $11.50.  Hey I'm saving  money already!  On to checkout.  Whats this?  Shipping $8.50.  Deal killer.

As I mentioned above,  I do not mind paying a fair price for a quality tool and $11.50 or even $14.95 for the PW II is acceptable.  But $8.50 to ship a 4" X 1" x 1/8" piece of stainless?  That is ridiculous.

Does anyone know of another source for the PocketWrench II?  Does anyone have on that they would like to sell?

I'd suggest just waiting for Lee Valley to have another free shipping spiel.  They have them at least a couple times a year. :tu:

That would require patience and seem to be running low on that right now.  My other option is to use a diversion.  Purchasing some other EDC item could work.

I know what you mean.  I live 10 minutes from a Lee Valley store and I usually go mad when I shop there.  When I'm going in to pick up one or two small items, I end up buying even more things and spending even more money.  :-\

I stopped waiting for Lee Valley to have a free shipping offer and ordered a Pocketwrench II from Hawills on Ebay.   It showed up today and all I could say was "holy sh*t, that is one beefy piece of metal. The pictures don't do it justice.

I can see this thing coming handy for many different tasks.   Another member in these forums squared the end which looks like a good idea because it would make it work as a scraper.
