My Kick!
on: November 22, 2007, 10:56:49 PM
I've had the LM Kick for about a year now, and we really like it, good tools, nice light weight, nice design but it has always been tight/stiff to open. No way can I open it with one hand and I've worked it for hours, open close, open close.

I've lubed it with all kinds of good lubes and cleaners (stuff for guns and knives) and thought by now it would have worked lose, but still tight. Is this usual/typical?

I've never had a kick, but I know from what other have said, that there is a varying degree in the amount of stiffness in there tools, you might have just got a tight one :(, someone'll be along soon to hopefully point you in the right direction :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

The one I got for my father in law was very stiff as well.

He's now used it for 2 months and he hasn't seen any change.
I'm back!!

It's not really a major problem, it's a great tool. I'm sure I could send it in and they'd fix it up, I hear Leatherman has great customer service but I was just seeing what others are like and getting some feed back, so thanks folks :)

My Kick takes more effort than it should to open and close, as does my Blast.

Do these Kicks open up and then get too tight halfway through the stroke?

Or are they too tight right from the beginning as you try to open them?

Hmmm, most peculiar. It must be that they've simply got the pivot screws too tight.  :(

The only cure will be to loosen them up. You'll need two pliers with crisp serrated jaws and a blow dryer if you plan on fixing this yourself.

I was reading the thread about switching out the tools and opening up the kick, very cool. I may get two clips (to use as wrenches) to be sure and do it right but for now, no worries :)

Hang on a sec, make sure you understand:

The pocket clips only work like wrenches on the blade pivot screws.

The plier pivot screws are a bigger size. The clips don't fit them. That's why I was saying you'll need two other pliers with crisp serrated jaws, in order to loosen up the plier pivot screws a bit.

thank you J-sews, I'll remember that and have seen the post/thread of the "taking apart of the kick!" if I do it, any tool that will help is worth it!
