Light surface rust on a Piranha.
on: July 04, 2011, 03:54:06 AM
I've been carrying the PocketToolX the last few days.  We've been driving posts, replacing fencing that's 20 years old.  Anyway, it's been hot and humid here in the mid-Atlantic, so this becomes hot, sweaty work.

Needless to say, the Piranha has been exposed to a lot of sweat.

I thought 154CM was supposed to be relatively good stainless steel. This is from 2 days of sweaty EDC:

I actually don't mind it as a patina, but I was surprised how quickly it appeared.

From what I've read, 154CM is a great steel for applications where lateral prying force is important. But it is known for not being the most corrosion resistant, especially when it comes in contact with warm salt water, like body sweat.
Never underestimate the power of the fleece

Get some penetrating sealer from caswell. Remove surface rust then wash with dawn. Soak it in the sealer then maybe a light wax coat. That should help a lot.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

How is your replacement Piranha working out now that you had it a few weeks?
I want to get one, just really reluctant.

It's a very good tool.  It's handled everything I've thrown at it.  The wrenches on the new one aren't as tight of a fit as the previous version, but it hasn't been an issue yet.

What is really nice about the Piranha is, I'm not afraid to really abuse it, since it is replaceable.  The problem with Atwoods is, if you break one, it might be extremely difficult (and expensive! ) to replace.

The Piranha trades off duty with my Atwood Roid Rench and Croconut.
