MY friend has just moved to holland, but wants to know if he buys an unlocked phone here will he be able to take it there and use a simcard from holland in it okay?

the phone in question is a htc wildfire but i dont think that makes any difference

i know and ive told him, but when monies tight and you don't want a contract it's not that bad

As long as your friend gets a quad-band phone, it should be fine for regular calling.  Whether or not he can get 3g data speeds is really dependent on the carrier and which UMTS band they support.
