MP400 differences
on: July 27, 2011, 03:06:57 PM
I have two Mp400's one is a few months old and the other is a good few years old . I thought I would list a few of the differences Gerber has made to the model .

The biggest change is the distance between the handles when the pliers are deployed .
Newest model is on the left , I can only imagine its to reduce the chance of pinching yor skin when using the pliers

Also the newer model has wider opening jaws

Despite looking very closely at the two tools I just cannot see any changes or differences that would cause the above

The plier jaws lock buttons on the older model are finished better then the newer model and are also stiffer to press . This makes the newer model easier to flick out the pliers as there isn't as much spring resistance in the little plungers .

One very welcome addition is the nail nick on the phillips driver

I know there are more then two styles of knife blades on the 400 but I do quite like the new style . The older one has GERBER USA on the tang while the newer one has nothing. Why on earth did they put the nail nick on the inside of the handle , on both tools

So anyone with any other differences in your collection ?

You have some interesting variations there. The ones I posses have a cutout in the blade...no nail nick like your two. Likewise, they all feature the Phillips nail nick. They are also a few years old at least.

(Image removed from quote.)

That looks good Dennis  :o 8) 8).
Besides the handle cut out did you have to do any thing else to get the blade to fit  , the thumb stud does not stick out too much  .

Wow a Suspension is good for something  :o :o :o :D :D :D

Thumbstud  works very well. Does'nt stick out too far.    Since  the 400 is only built for 2 long tools I removed some material on one side of the bottom of the plier head to gain a little clearance for the extra blade.

Sounds like mine as well.  Older style blade but with cut-out, nail-nick on the Phillips.

Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.
