Whats to fat for a Keychain Sak? (84/85/91/93mm)
on: July 31, 2011, 02:33:25 PM
Just wanting to see what everyone carries on their keychain in the larger sak varieties?

I have carried a 3 layer wenger for a few months without issue but was curious if anyone goes larger.

As we all know its not the length but the girth that really counts :D

Well being as I have a multitude of things already on my keyring. I would only use a 58mm classic or sd on it.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Any 58mm but for 74/84mm SAKs one layer is as thick as I like to go.  Any bigger and I just carry the SAK loose in my pocket.

Car keys - 58mm manager
House keys - 65mm pocket tool chest

Any larger doesn't belong on a keyring IMO ... but the split ring comes in handy for suspension clip carry, attaching a Photon light or for lanyards

I carry Alox Classic on my house keys, anything else would be to bulky for me.

I have a midnight manager on my car keys but the biggest I would go is an Esquire.

I have, in the past, carried a Cadet on my keys.  It did fine but would be the exception to my norm. :)

Anything smaller than my SwissChamp has had the keyring attachment point removed..For me at least they are more comfortable to carry in my pocket. I'm out of Classics right now,but that would be about it when it comes to keychain carry...

All 58 and 74mm are fine for keys.  Never tried 84mm.  I did have a two layer 91mm on my keys for a week once.  Too big to work right though.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I have an Executive on my keys, definitely not too big. Haven't even tried one of my 91mm's on the keyring, I think it would just be too awkward.

A one or two layer 84mm would be as large as I would go.

If the brought back the Apprentice, or maybe a Salesman Slim (Golfer with phillips rather than the corkscrew), I might do it, although my key ring has a lot of stuff already.

If they made DofE sak with a pointy blade you'd have that salesman slim

The DofE is a 91mm- although if I can ever find a good drill press in my budget, I'm going to mod a Compact to have a phillips, designate it the EDC.

No need for a drill to do that project.  Just file off the head of the pin on the corkscrew and fit a new pin in with the phillips driver.

I too have an Executive on the keys, I find it more comfortable than the Signature lite I had going before.
...Classic SD is still the keychain king though, it all but disappears when not in use.

I carry a minichamp with silvertech that makes it a bit wider.  If I didn't carry that I think a Stainless Steel Director would be quite nice.  I could see a Cadet or Voyager used, more like a keyfob, and of course it would need to be attached with a clip so as to be removable for use.
