Gerber Multi-Lite & 400 Modifications
on: July 28, 2011, 03:14:27 AM
I've had both these projects in mind for awhile  but finally got around to them a few weeks ago.

First was to try and make a Multi Lite a lot more pocketable(and usefull).

With top removed.

Torn down with some help from my 600 Bluntnose

Parts donor apart

The blade was just a bit long so I had to remove the small lip at the end of the body.
I also then added a notch for the OH blade stud  and ground the sides of the handles  down of excess material so its shorter than original.

Then after making the final choice of tool load it was time to assemble.

The OH blade works well.   Eventually I will take it back apart and do a little polishing.

Next up is a 400.   Thanks to Multimat I had a set of Suspension blades to play with so I decided I wanted them in a 400.
Lockup on the blades is good. The thumbstuds work very well.   Basically all I had to do was grind 2 notches for the thumbstuds and I also removed some material from the bottom of the plier head in order to make room for a third long tool since the 400 was originally designed for only 2 long tools.

They look good Dennis  8) 8).

Did the saw blade exchanger tool make it into the WH Lite   , is it next to the donor blade  .

Dennis do the 800 & Suspension tools look interchangeable

Yes, The saw is next to the blade.          The main difference between the tools of the 800 and suspension is the length.    No problem with the locking end.

I like the idea of a 400 with one hand blades. :)

Are you able to do it completely one handed Dennis? (in other words, can you go from a tool closed up in the sheath, to a tool with the knife unfolded and ready to go, all with just one hand?)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Yes, I can do it completely one handed.    I may end up putting a OH 800 blade in my 600.  That would have come in handy a few times over the years

Dennis just needs to find a way of replacing the 'damp candle' light for one that actually illuminates  :P :D :D :D

The Multi-Lite was definitely more "multi" than "light" :-\ :D
