Depends on the kind of fishing; for jetty fishing you actually want as much light hitting the water as possible. Many people bring two or three propane lanterns and put them as close to the water as possible, wear headlamps that project into the water, and use glow in the dark lures and jigs. Small creatures and plankton gravitate to light just like insects do, and the big fish gravitate to those little guys for dinner. But hey, for $8 I could pick up a red AND a green just for laughs.

Something just popped into my mind, would surefire red filter/diffuser work on novatac? They both are 1" diameter aren't they?

The Novatac OD is just under 1".  I don't have a Surefire filter to test on it.

While the ARC AAA-P is less bright than the Fenix , and has fewer features , it is a pile more solid . Personally , I prefer ruggedness to features , I likley wouldnt use anyway . Fenix isnt in the same price class as the Surefire and Novatac , and doesnt have the reliability and build quality . Surefire underrates their outputs , most offshore stuff overrates theirs . Make mine a Surefire , I try to avoid the made in China stuff . We cant keep on exporting our jobs forever !

Inova has some very nice stuff , good build quality . I own several of them to exploit AA batts , the Arc is my AAA of choice . I cary a fenix as a CR123 carrier , that just might work when the chips go down !

I like the Novatacs I have seen , but am holding out for the ARC LS , when/if it comes out . Novatac overrates their output a wee tad , but a good piece of kit . Brightness isnt that big an issue IMHO , 40-60 Lumen is plenty for an EDC . Some of the new stuff is pretty out there in their claims .
