Sorry not an alox. The only reason I say this is because there is no way to remove the cross without damaging the scale(previous thread). It really depends on what you like and what functions you want. Also you could have a custom made for you with the tools you want. Also a mod can have no shield.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Super Tinker. It's a great all-around SAK, and one that sees more pocket time than any other of my 91mm's.

From the choices on the poll I chose super tinker, but there are a lot of different models and which one is best depends on many factors. What size do you want - there is usually a trade-off, bigger vs more tools.
If you want a bigger SAK with more tools on it then you could consider something like the Victorinox Ranger - with a saw & a file you can do more with it, but of course it is bigger & heavier than a super tinker.
Whatever you do, don't get a cheap knock-off. Victorinox SAKs are very reasonably priced and it just isn't worth the small amount saved to be using a far inferior product.

Don't get a knock-off.
If a 74mm SAK is right for you, consider a stainless steel Prince, Windsor or Director. Very nice SAKs, no shield/cross:

Much as I'm a big fan of the Tinker Small, the Super Tinker would make for a better 'first SAK'.

Get a super tinker. Don't waste you money on a knock off, most are junk.
I have seen SAK's with the cross & shield on the back side and a plain scale on the front side. You might be able to get both scales without the cross from rotokid or NKB. That way you have nice shiney scales with no cross.

Super Tinker. You'll find the scissors very useful.

Of the one's you listed the Tinker, and I'll agree with everyone else about the Super Tinker. However, i'm gonna throw a monkey wrench into this and say a Vic Compact. The combo tool is endlessly useful, scissors, main blade, corkscrew with eyeglass screwdriver, and multipurpose hook with nail file on the back. It's a great little SAK will definitely give you a good feel the tools.

Super tinker is great, but I would suggest you look into the wenger handyman (forester if you want the corkscrew instead of phillips). A lot of tools in a smaller and lighter package. The forester was my second SAK and I liked it so much I carried it for the next 12 years as my EDC.

You can get it with the new evo scales too, but then they are called evo 17 and evo 18, and have a locking main blade.

Mind you, if you choose a Wenger, you won't be able to swap the scales for ones without a cross
