When the Vibro Ring on the Opinel is too lose, is this a known issue??
And what is it, what can cause this issue??
When the Opi is closed, its ditnt need much force to move the ring so the blade can be opened, which happens sometimes when I ditnt want it..

When the Blade is open, it's saves it from closing as it was intended to work, but it's should also prevent its to open if it's closed

you can take it off and tighten it, by squeezing it in, a bit.

to remove, close the blade, lock it with the ring and force the blade, pulling it up, to open.

that should make the ring fly out.

after adjustment, slip it back in.
you can also remove it  by opening it up with pliers and pulling it out.

Has anyone tried stabilizing the wood to stop the swelling? When new I vaseline'd up the handle and baked it in gently and that's given me a year plus without problems but now in the winter it's swollen up again. I was wondering about using something like Linseed/Tung oil on it instead this time to seal in the wood and stop the water getting in. Anyone tried that?

I've been messing with these things for over thirty years. now and I've found that it doesn't really matter what you use, some swellings going to happen. It gets a bit snug when soaked in a sink with the other dishes, or a creek when washing it off after fishing. I use mineral oil to soak the joint area a couple time a year. That seems to work as well s anything else. I've used Vaseline petroleum jelly in the joint and used the old lades blow drier to melt it into the wood. That works good too.

The big secret seems to be, just keep the joint greased or lolled with something and put up with a little difference in how it works time to time. Sometimes a little snug, somethings a little loose. Kind of adds to the quirky character of the thing. The knife is all about the cutting anyways, so I just blow off any variance.  If I want totally consistency, I'll carry one of my SAK's.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

The Garden Opinel has become my single most used knife......99% of my food prep.

Makes me cringe to see with how little of the right thing you can get along

Considering how the small saw performed I always wanted the big boy......with a voucher and discount it was a no-brainer. Not a Silky Katanaboy, but works great......would've liked a slightly thicker blade though...
