CRKT Get-a-way Driver
on: November 28, 2011, 02:05:23 AM
Fridays delivery of goodies inclueded a Get-a-way Driver.I'd been put off these in the past by one or two iffy reviews, but if it was gonna add a quarter inch socket for the Zillatool...

I have to say I'm very impressed!About the same size and a fraction of the weight of a 84mm SAK,it holds 4 custom quarter inch bits,2 philips,2 flat.It has a built in LED,pry bar/bottleopener,and comes with a carbineer.

First thing I done was dump the carabineer(I've had bad experiances with cheap ones in the past),and replace it with a mash up of a Fenix and Tec clips. In the process of doing that I did manage to lose one of the bits(D'oh ).

That aside,I can tell you that the LED is no replacement for a Fauxton, but the bits take the pace far better than the Zilla's do,they fit well, both in thier storage clip and into the driver socket.Standard quarter inch bits fit the driver well but lack the sprung bb to hold them into the drivers handle.

Its light enough to hang on a belt loop and doesnt need a pouch. Its ideal for knife unfriendly enviroments,or would make the perfect complement to a Vic Classic as a light EDC combo,or the basis of a hand Altiods tin

And that extension fits perfectly to Zilla and Zill JR so you can use 1/4" bits... :tu: :tu: :tu:

Perfectly would be a bit of an exageration I'm afraid

That's what I feared, heard various things about these, great concept tools though and still kinda fancy a little Zilla myself.

ps. Do like your backdrop pics, meant to comment before :tu:

After you had mentioned the Get away Driver adaptor fitting in the Zilla Jr., I tried it out and have the same opinion you do:  It fits, but not very well and feels loose and sloppy.  It does give the Zilla Jr the option of using standard 1/4 bits.

Nice review!

(And btw, with all this CRKT Zilla talk, I had to break down and get a full sized Zilla Tool  :ahhh)
