Most museums allow photographs but some do not allow flash, as it spoils the mood. That is where a good SLR system pays off; good pictures without the flash.
I have lots of museum pictures. Very good for boring people to death.  >:D

I will see if i can post some one day, but it is very hard to select just a few.

To be fair, flashes also tend to damage old artwork, too; IR sensors can also cause damage, which is why some museums ban photography entirely. :tu:

I can see powerfull light (any part of the spectrum) as well as smoke and polutants damaging artwork, but I question how much damage photographers will do, with their flash and IR light.

Really, from what I understand, museums do not want you to take pictures so that they can sell you postcards. Also if you show your pictures to people then they may not need to actually visit the museum, though I find that showing them pictures makes them want to visit the museum more.
