Bit kit price increase
on: October 04, 2025, 03:20:28 PM
I see leatherman is now charging $40 for the bit kit. All the retailers still list them at $30. Is this a sign of another upcoming price increase?

Likely tariffs at work.   I do believe these bits are imported individually and then assembled to kit form and packaged by Leatherman stateside.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Bit kits come from Taiwan, so that's probably the case.

I’m looking to buy one of these new bit kits on Tuesday. Does anyone know the difference between square drive and Robertson?  I’ve never heard of square drive.

Google can be your friend -
“Robertson screws, also known as square-drive screws, are a Canadian invention that feature a square socket in the head and a matching square protrusion on the driver. The tapered square socket makes them self-centering, slip-resistant, and easier to drive with one hand. Robertson screws are used in many industries, including woodworking, HVAC, electrical, and residential construction. Here's a closer look at Robertson screws: “

They are the same.

I have a set of Robertson 1/4 inch drive bits but never have used them.  Better to have them and not need them?  Best wishes.  G

I know I have encountered them on Canadian made products.

And, also on outdoor decks and outdoor furniture made with POLYWOOD materials.  My porch chairs are fastened together with ROBINSON DRIVE SCREWS.

The screw heads do not round out when using power drivers correctly.

I’ve used them on deck screws. They work quite well without rounding. I just found it odd that Leatherman listed it ass square on some bit kits and Robertson on others.
