Please count me in.  I am in the USA.
I am curious and have never seen a knife like this.  How long can we keep them and what can you do/not do with them?  :)

I think a week or two is fair, and just try not to destroy them  :D So long as the next person gets them in a reasonable space of time and you've not taken an oxy-acetalene torch or angle grinder to it all should be well. Feel free to cut, chop, baton, dig and generally use the tools to the standard you'd expect somthing of that ilk to perform to (Heavy use on big knife, lighter use on smaller knife).

UPDATE:
Packaged weight is currently 875g (or approx 2lb). This will vary if people start adding in items as the package goes round  :tu:

Figured I best start with pictures before they get beat up used ;)

First the big one (all pictures are clickable).

The pouch is no frills but doesn't feel flimsy, should do the job fine.

Here it is in all its bigness :D

That's a hefty looking spine, it should take some hammer.  The edge is about what you'd get on a hardware store bought axe.  You could batten with it but cutting might be a challenge

The handle is .... basic.  Look at this bottom and those edges.  Anything other than quick ocasional use is going to leave your hand sore :(

Little one.

Not sure about the size of the handle, might be a fraction too small and I have pretty average sized hands, time will tell.

I don't like the pouch but that's just me I suspect.

Its a thin blade, no whacking the back of this one.  It also has a very slight curve at the tip.

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

The edge on the little one isn't blunt but its not really quite as sharp as I'd like.  I tried slicing up the cover of the Yello Pages that dropped through the letter box this morning.  It struggled.  I then gave it a wash and proceeded to slice up an apple.  This it managed but I would have been happier and had a little more control if it were that fraction sharper.

Here's a picture post apple.  The juice has stained the metal.  To be expected but I was a little surprised as time between slicing and washing was only the time it took me to eat the apple.

I've now put a new micro bevel on it and am much happier.  The curve at the tip meant I had to use stones to get a decent edge right to the tip rather than a few strokes on the Sharpmaker that I use with my SAKs.

Nice work so far Neil. I suspect there's going to be a very healthy patina on that little one by the time it finds it's way to a winner. I'm with you on the small sheath too.

Great pics as always mate  :tu:

Nope :(

It was meant to assist in tree felling duties but the tree in question has had a reprieve  >:(

I'll be forwarding the knives on Monday.  Hopefully I'll get to try it on something over the weekend.

The little knife has been hanging around with me doing a lot of the duties I'd normally pass to my SAK, so sorry to the folk further down the line for its already less than pristine condition.

Paul, get stuck in feller - fill yer boots  :D

These knives pretty much leave the factory "semi-finished". The scales are oversize and the final grind is more of a gesture. Neil comparison with "store bought axe" was quite apt - it's down to the user to get the full potential out of these items. You can use them as they are, but you really need to do a little refining yourselves to get the best out of them. Feel free to do what you feel is needed guys. If there's a rough spot - get rid, if it needs a edge/profile tweak - then tweak away.

Obviously we don't want to get to the end of the passaround with the big knife having been reduced to the size of the little one  ::) ::) :D the hardness will only be so deep on steel of that thickness - otherwise it'd snap on you in chopping duties - but other than that feel free to do what's needed. Even if someone feels a better sheath is needed for example, feel free to knock one up (just include the original when you pass it on so the next guy can see what comes from the factory)

Other than that, nice to hear your first impressions and look forward to your thoughts and pics as you put them into action :tu:

More than welcome feller  :tu:

As a side note that sheepsfoot knife that's in the pic is almost the same as my first "proper" slippie. Mine has brass bolsters and pins and a carbon steel blade, and it still gets carried and used to this day even after surviving an overnight spell in a submerged shed in the 2007 floods. My Andujar stainless bowie actually fared a lot worse and I ended up replacing it, but a mate of mine managed to ressurect it after I let him take it ...  I digress  :D :D :D

The slippie was a gift from a mate of mine over 20 years ago who worked in the trade back then - and it was actually a gift to him from the "Little Mester" who worked in Kelham Island Industrial Museum at the time ... though I'm not sure who the resident Little Mester was back then, and the tang stamp doesn't offer any clues
