2001-2004 PST question
on: November 10, 2024, 02:13:06 AM
I was looking to add one or two PSTs with the new plier head with large pivots to my collection and found they are a little more difficult to find.

Is it a matter of just being patient and they show up, or are there smaller numbers of them production wise?  :dunno:

My guess would be: some combination of both. The PST was nearing the end of its production run early this century, so I would think that more effort was being put into newer models. But then again, there might be one that flies under the radar with a minimal description and less than great photos. It might worth giving every eBay PST listing a little extra scrutiny. Good luck in your quest!

I have never really thought about it but I would say Farmer is probably correct with his comment :salute:

Good luck in the search, FoBe :tu: If you head to eBay I would just search for Leatherman, or maybe Leatherman Tool and see what popped up :salute:

How about a photo with the large pivot vs small pivot?  I'm sure lots of members haven't seen both.  Me either.  Best wishes.  G

I have seen a couple on eBay the last couple weeks. From what I can tell:

dated code 01 handles have some combination of the smaller and larger pivots. Maybe earlier productions used up the remaining casts before decommissioning that machine?

Date code 02-03 are a little more common and all have had the large plier pivot.  I think I still only noticed about 10 in good enough shape to purchase.  04 seem to be less common.

I would agree that earlier 2001s used existing stock of smaller pivot pliers. Some may have been retained for warranty replacements, too.

Is the limited edition PST from a couple years ago a large pivet?

Edit: Already found out it was a large pivet.
