The Swiss Army Knife - Owner's Manual
on: October 29, 2011, 01:08:52 AM
Finally! A definitive book on the Swiss Army Knife! Just published, this book is 223 pages crammed with history and current information on the "little red knife". I highly recommend this book written by Michael M. Young.

Looks intriguing.  Forgive a newb question, but is this a real book published by a company or a self made self published type of thing?  I've never seen this anywhere else.

Thanks

Not all self published books are bad; just look at Jacob Lund Fisker's Early Retirement Extreme book. ;)

Hmm, that website sure is a pain to get registered in.

* Finally got registered and picked one book up.  I have the Kathryn Kane (sp?) book which is nice in it's own rite but I hope this new one is better.

Gee thanks- that site keeps this one free for members to use.  If you have issues feel free to send me a message privately and I'll see what I can do to help.

I guess it's a bit too late to ask now, but how does it compare to "The Knife and Its History" and Rick Wall's "Swiss Army Knife Companion"?

Received the book earlier today, and just spent several hours browsing through it. A tremendous amount of information on the evolution of tools, handles, markings, etc. Also a lot of information on dates, including the best dating info for Wengers that I've seen. Also lots of handy tips on  unconventional uses of various tools. One point - the book is not an identification guide to various models, but what it does do it does very well. My main complaint (common to many current books, particularly users manuals) is it needs a good index. Definitely worth the price.  :tu: :tu: :tu:

Sounds a lot better than this...which I was disappointed in content wise.

This was a better book than the top one imho.

I still can't believe the lack of proofreading for that "book."  o.O  :ahhh

[Edit:  I still have to wait a day or two for my copy of the Owner's Manual to arrive.  :ahhh]

See Karl's post above.

Thanks!!  I missed this the first time some how.  Sounds good so I ordered a couple so I could use a highlighter on one copy.  If that synopsis listed on EDC forums is from the actual book jacket, introduction or preface, it might indicate the book needs an editor's review.

Even though the market is rather small, I hope he finds a publisher.  Looks like it would be a good book to have on my Kindle.  I hope that happens one day.  Any ebook or PDF version would be great.  I can't wait to take a look at it.

Definitely true. Digging out the info is often time-consuming, but there's more info there than anyplace else. I'm still waiting for a good identification guide.
