Agreed. It's probably not one for the "plierphiles"  :P who need the biggest possible pliers at all times. As a knife-centric tool though, it's an impressive bit of kit for the right person/scenario.

I do wish those scales were a little slimmer though  :-\
some thoughts:
yes it is on the larger side, also the "plierphiles" looking for the biggest plier is true, however Wenger 120mm or more correct 130mm got so many larger size functions is handy, many multitools today got ok size on the functions too but many also got so small functions that it would make them difficult to use, the saw on the Rangers is enough to cut thick wood, with the bits one get great momentum and one can custom make your tool for many tasks, the plier is in my opinion medium size and enough for much, knifeblade is there very good also, i feel the Wenger multitools fills a gap that many do not have and it is like you say people looking for the best plier and the multitool become much like just a plier many times.....

I'd agree with that. I got the tool for outdoors use (hiking/camping) and intend leaving the driver bits at home. That gives me a knife and saw which is far more suitable for the hills and woods than what is available on anything else, but also gives me a medium duty plier and file which would be perfectly adequate for that environment in my mind. It also gives me a can opener but no bottle opener which again is the right set up for that role.

Personally I feel a handyman (person) will find the drivers handy (assuming  but would probably need a stronger pliers. The knife and saw may actually be overkill for that guy .... for an outdoors role thought it suits quite nicely. He's also probably more likely to want a beer at the end of the day than a tin of soup  :P

yes maybe a bigger plier, i would also say that the plier shape and the arm is such one can remove hooks sitting deep in fish since one can operate the arm with a finger,

Also the opening for bits gives possibillities for many things/uses,....

Top photo is of a Wenger Traveler with cleated metal handles. Done for the Mercedes-Benz Unimog all-terrain truck.

The second is a Wenger reed-scraping knife, for preparing reeds for musical instruments. A special run for Oboe, a Swiss music supply company.

Figured I'd post a pic of my current Wenger lineup.

At top are a Toolchest and an Eddie Bauer marked Adventurer.  Middle row are a Tradesman and my Evo16, and at the bottom is a Backpacker II.  I've owned a number of other Wengers, and have liked them all.  Out of the knives pictured, the Tradesman and Evo16 are my most carried.  The Evo16 actually is probably my favorite SAK.  The watch on the left was a regular of mine for many years, but has sadly stopped working.  :(  I'll have to figure out where to send it and get it fixed.  The watch on the right was gotten in a trade, and wow do I like it.  I don't often wear a watch, but when I do it's that one.  Oh, and my everyday bag is a Wenger City Pack backpack......  :tu:
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

Does Wenger still make any of these lefty models?  I gotta get my hands on one!  :gimme:

Here's a U S source for the left-handed Wenger Traveler.

Three new arrivals for me today (actually two but I added a SAK for comparison).
All from local shops!

The first one is the "Pecheur" 1 45 03 know as Troller in the US market.
I had been looking for this baby for a long time!

The last two are very similar by each other and also compared to the US model "Survivor" (which has very minor differences).

On top is model 1 68 02 from the "Bardane" series and on bottom model 1 92 73 from the "Signal" series.

No not quite; I still need the Commander from the series.  The group pictues posted to the wiki were from ColoSwiss, he has all the 85mm models, can't remember if he has the Esquire without ring.  I'm not too worried though, I'm just very happy to get this model.

I like them both but I find the 91mm Victorinox more usable. From Wenger I like the pliers, the springs of pliers/ scissors, the wrench, locking blade, "locking" screwdriver. Victorinox could implement all these since they own Wenger but it seems they want to keep Wenger alive. I had a Tool Chest Plus and although I liked a lot the tools mentioned I hated the ruler/ compass (one could have 6 tools in it's place) the lack of tools on the back and missed the Victorinox hook, scissors, can opener (watchmaker's knife for me), small blade and mini screwdriver (although you can put one on Wenger). I also needed some more blades and the bits, so I could only find them on Vic XLT. This is my EDC now.
Mike Horn's Ranger seems great with no rival from Vic. I would get that for outdoors and a Swisschamp would complement it for all the tools it lacks.

I completely agree about the ruler/compass.
That tool is just too big and prone to break, so I usually try to avoid all the models equipped with it.
About the small blade (which I prefer over the nail file) Wenger had a lot of models equipped with it.

Anyone have one of the S14 Soft Touch models?  I've been very interested in one, but have never seen one in a store to check out.  The tool compliment seems just right for day to day EDC.

I have two of the Tactiles; a 7-blade blue-grey version, and an 8-blade black version. Both have a main clip blade like the ones on the SwissBucks. The actual handle material appears to be a very thin neoprene layer applied to a standard red plastic handle, which is visible on the underside where it overlaps. I doubt it would hold up very well.

Thanks for the info.  They look like nice SAKs, but they're pricey for what they are.  If the handle is just covered, and not that durable, seems like it'd just be a waste of money, unless it was for shelf-queenage.

They should have made them out out solid neoprene with a stiffening insert, like the various pistol grips. That would have been a winner.

Nice! I just got the 3 layer traveler with clip point it has metallic blue shadow grass scale; essentially I think it is the same as your grey one, but in blue.

What's the equivalent Wenger model with the standard blade compared to your 8 blade one?

Are they readily available?  I had thought all the left-handed Wengers were discontinued long ago.

Nice one!  Soon to be a Wiki Picture  :).  I picked up a Left-Handed Forester a couple weeks back, but I'm way behind on pictures... the shorter days means now I don't even have natural light for photos.  I'll need set up an artificial setup again soon.
