I found really great offer to buy Wenger S557, but I'm worried about one thing:
On one side is regular Evo red scale and on the other side is EvoGrip red & black?
On the Evo scale there is writing-Exclusivities and also on the box.
Number on the box is 1 557 59 399.
Is this real deal?

yes if i remember it is what Wenger called like the writing exclusivities knife, it is collectable yes :tu:

Here is an intersting SI/Soldat.  Typically you would never have advertising on a Soldier, or at least Swiss only advertising if the knife has the federal shield, but here you have US advertising and the Swiss Shield.  The knife is undated, and I presume they decided to do this after the 93mm was replaced as standard issue, but I don't know for sure.

(Image removed from quote.)

Here's a Victorinox Soldier with the federal shield and advertising. Its a tie-in to the movie "Armageddon", which came out in 1998. The blade is dated '97' and the other side is marked 'Touchstone Pictures' and a four-digit serial number.

Wenger Colonel or Oberst.  An old-time SAK with more traditional tools including the small-blade vs. the more common nail-file on later Wenger models.

(Image removed from quote.)

Verrry Interesting. What is the blade combination on the 'Oberst'? I've never seen that name before, and am wondering if its a new model or only a different name.

Thanks

While taking pictures of the Spot Light for the wiki, I got a couple of additional shots.
This is what I bought some time ago on ebay.
I believe this is a Master Tool 13.
The wiki shows a picture of a model with red Evo scales.
Mine has standard green scales with the Orvis logo.
I think the Master Tool 13 is quite a rare variation

This is a knife I bought on ebay as well.
Basically a Cyclist (with the small blade instead of the nail file, as usually shown in the models sold in Europe), but with a strange horse logo embossed on the front scales.

interesting, i have never seen a horse icon on the scale, it reminds me about icons or symbols to remind or fit once hobby or interest,. it is in the correct place maybe, but it is or look to be made by a private person or so, first Wenger did use the embossed or what looks like a hot stamp type with color like you know, then the pad print, i have seen one time one or two SAKs that private people or owners have made engravings on them, hmm.. :tu:

North Man you made very good points.
I remember, however, a similar knife I saw on ebay, just after my purchase.
After much looking through the ebay "completed" auction search menu, I was able to find the auction
Auction is: 140898555927
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Swiss-Arm-Knives-Lot-/140898555927?
Seems to me the horse was made by the factory.
Hope Karl will know something.

hi
thanks! new to me, it is probarbly genuine then, a new one to looks for maybe, on the auction one i could see the shade or color seems genuine, i was alittle puzzled by why its been angeled different, not kicking backwards into the air, but the whole icon is on another angle. the ground is under the backlegs , nice, hopefully it is seems the box is old and the functions, could this be a 70s knife??the auction one got extra loop on corkscrew aswell, in 1977 i found articles mentioning personalized and sportsman presentation, i did wonder if the universal wrench is from around 1975??

see , here is the angle one usually see the icon, the skier got some angle but not like yours and the auction horse knife, the skier is a 1976 knife and from late 70s i have a few different icon knives with the old embossed or not sure what to call it hot stamped with color kind, later the pad print, if one see today the evolution knives got icon aswell, many of them have been changed, for example the best known backpacker is today a boot print

ps, the backpacker and the cyclist is angeled like your and the auction knife, so this mean your knife got the horse correct, so it seems to me your knife is genuine, hopefully others may tell..

The Orvis was sold as the 'Orvis 13 Special Edition', and had a unique blade combination that only they offered at the time. Their stock number was 89R60000. Don't have the red handled version.

I have a 'Horse' in near-mint condition, but have no info on it. Don't know if that's its name, or what its model number is.

The 6-blade Spotlight without scissors was listed in one ad as the 'Executive Spotlight'. Its model number is 1 97 20.

Francis,

Looks like you've hit the Wenger jackpot! A lot of great stuff there.  :tu:
Well not really; many of these are from before the announcement, just never got around to taking their picture because there are just too many pictures that need to be taken.  However I decided to concentrate on Wenger pictures for a while, and just do some cheap snap shots quickly.  A couple I've known about for years, but never bought... but the announcement made me buy them.  A couple were also very recent ebay buys, like the nice 700yr commemorative, had only seen pictures of that in the past.

....

I believe, unless I was negligent, that the Master Tool 13 does not have a serrated blade, so the Orvis one would have a tool variation also.  I'll try to double check this as I look at my Wengers for pictures.

Thanks for posting the Orvis knife.

Attached is the only other picture (apart from the one on sakwiki) about the Master Tool 13 that I could find on the web.
I'm waiting for Francis to check with his model.
However, should the two knives had the very same tool configuration, could we consider the Orvis just a variation of the Master Tool 13?
If not, Francis please edit the caption of the pictures I uploaded on the wiki, as I don't know how to do it.

The Orvis version probably precedes the Master Tool 13, given its older style of handles. However it would probably be better to list the knife under the more generic MT 13 name, with a note about the Orvis. Orvis at one time offered a wide range of Wenger knives, but currently carries only an EvoWood S557.

thank you, i love to get information on these, animals or other imprinted ones, i have with fish on but pad print type, would be ok if we could find some information regarding them, we know Wenger started with the personalized and sportsman presentation, to relate to a persons hobby/interest, Victorinox have used icons for a long time, usually they had inlays...i took a picture of a few i got with imprinted icons, these are years 1980-1986 i would believe, from our research it seems Wenger have done this from the 70s aswell, that i suspected since i found some in adds, and the VIP from 1976 around like we know, you can see on the picture that the backpacker emblem/icon is alittle different, one got the patented screwdriver and the other not, the imprinter is not completely the same, they vary some..

Wenger presented the skier around 1976..The VIP also, this got two constructions and often found or presented with a coin for luck...

thanks,

yes the one on picture is without metalfile, i got one with metalfile and the skier imprint aswell, it is in more rough shape , it got an extra loop on the corkscrew and functions that to me would suggest an early edition, i am not sure if the metalfile skier was first or they are from same time, anyhow the old i have is or suggest 1976-1979,  :)

My fault; I failed to note the 60% serrated blade on the Master Tool 13.  I updated the wiki page. I added the Orvis as a variation, but noted it was likely the first model with this tool configuration.  I should have bought more of these when I had the chance.

Motivated solely my news of Wenger's demise, I've ordered the following (all used ... NTSA seizures) this past week.

1990 Standard Issue
Golf Pro (I love how weird this one is)
Viking (so listed .... might be an Adirondack, I think)
Esquire
Tradesman

I'd like to get an Evowood as well, but bargain used copies just aren't around, it seems.
