Great to see the SwitchPlier apart  8) 8).
Thanks Bob
Hold the praise until he's got it back together. ;)

Seriously Bob, nice one on taking the thing apart and taking some very clear pics mate.

Nice one Bob  :tu: Mechanically the strength of that pin really does not mirror what the tool looks like it should be capable of. That's quite a large lightweight plier  Let's hope that SOG decide to redesign and rerelease this with a little lot more grunt. Their compond leverage is excellent as Mat just proved in another thread, and I really do like my Japanese made Toolclip. It would be nice to see the same power and strength applied to a switchplier

Really nice to see these pics :tu: thanks for that. Shame with that cast pin, you'd of thought it to be either both sides or rod type of thing all the way through the plier  Still liking these SwitchPliers, unique design again for SOG and as 50ft-trad says, it would be nice to see these again with a bit more Oomph but until then be gentle :tu:

I think that is an excellent suggestion BW. :salute: A steel rod all the way through the plier, engaged by the handle on both sides, would make a world of difference IMO. :tu:

It's reassembled, but I must admit it seems a bit 'catchy' for some reason. Or maybe it was always like that? I'll probably have to take it back apart and see if I did something wrong. ::)

Not so sure about that solution  ??? since a steel rod all the way through will render the plier head incapable to open

I think a better approach will be a Box Joint type of Plier, like the one in the Schrade ST5E:

As you commented about them in this thread: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,29172.msg501064.html#msg501064

They could also use laminated steel plate construction which will be cost effective  :tu:

DOH! Yeah, I guess you are right, forget the pin-all-the-way-thru suggestion! :P :D

Excellent solution, I agree completely! :tu: You should go apply for an engineering job at SOG Ombudsman :salute:

Just found a Mini Switchplier at ebay !  :o  Well .. just a chinese "mini me" of the original, but a cute and inexpensive one indeed :D

Don't know how frail it will be, but for less than 6 bucks it can always make an nice christmas ornament !
