I think it was mostly used in Victorinox Economy class. What does the tang stamp say?

Yes, it is usually used as the shield on economy class Victorinox knives. It is called a hot stamped shield where the silver foil is melted/pressed into the knife scale. They wear off somewhat over time and use. The regular Victorinox knives have a metal inlay that is much classier.

There are some older knives with the same shield except it is a metal inlay. These are frequently found on Victorinox knives that have the Elinox tang stamp.
